Hey Experts!
First I want to say THANKS for all the feedback. Everything brought up in your messages will get discussed and seriously considered at Flixster. I want to keep that discussion going, so any further ideas you have should get posted in the Expert Forum, url: http://www.flixster.com/forums/topic/771149328
Instead of getting back to our normal scheduled feature of a great wiki (although there are two new ones down below) I feel we should address a couple things that were brought up during the last week while the topics are still fresh in our minds. It's important that we are all on the same page as we act as a group on Flixster (despite our efforts being individual). Other things mentioned in the comments to last weeks questions, such as interest in more fonts, will get responded to in the Expert Forum, url: http://www.flixster.com/forums/topic/771149328
The two things that I think should be addressed are: what is an Expert, and how does an Expert stay in good standing.
Flixster encourages anyone to add content to any page when they stop by. An Expert has a bit of an added role. Experts are users that want to drive the development of the pages of their favorite actors beyond a few items of content. Instead of adding an interesting pic or a funny quote and moving on they see the page through to an interesting state of completion and tend to the page as a gardener tend to his/ her garden (will explain in a bit). We think its great when people want to take on this role and do a few things to say thanks/ give support (I think you are all familiar with this, but if you need a recap check out the Expert FAQ).
It's easy to be in good standing. First, the page should have some info in each of the main areas which are the main page and the three sub-pages (best quotes for example). This includes the mini-bio on the main page. How much info is "some" info? The mini bio should be completely filled in. Beyond that there should be at least a couple things added to each of the main sections. A couple movies added to best movies, a few quotes, etc. You don't have to write essays. The emphasis is that nothing is empty. Secondly, the page should get some attention here and there to make sure that important info gets updated and spam deleted. And that's the foundation of being in good standing.
I have begun taking Experts that aren't in good standing off of pages. You may want to revisit your pages and see where you are at to ensure this doesn't happen to you. But, this isn't a threat! We all have lives, and I understand if you just haven't gotten to it in a while because of whatever. And it should be mentioned, if you just lost interest and don't care to work on a specific page anymore just let me know and I will hand it over to someone interested in tending to it.
Also: try to use common courtesy when making additions to other Experts pages. Follow the same design and layout the the Expert started with or maybe just start a fan page. As well, it never hurts to contact the Expert first, let em know you like the page, and that you'd like to chip in. You may even make a friend out of it.
Also: Copy and pasting is great. It's super helpful but it gets abused a lot. There is nothing wrong with copy and pasting info in unless you aren't changing it around to be unique from the source you copied it from. It must be altered when you use it or it's plagiarism. As well, we try to avoid the posting of other websites names unless it's in a quote. A fact doesn't need to be altered (an actors birth date for example). When you are changing things around please read it to make sure it makes sense :)
Ok, this post is getting a bit long. I think I will end it there. Lets talk about it! (In the forum)
