Duchovny's wife and daughter are critically injured in a car wreck and his dead wife returns in his daughter's body...or is it her? Or is it really his daughter? Or is it both? Who knows? Who cares? A waste of time for anybody other than either David's fans or people who have seen EVERY OTHER MOVIE EVER MADE!!! But as bad as Duchovny's acting always is, he seems to actually try with this piece of shit he's given. Remember...he agreed to it

Not nearly as creepy as "Birth" with Nicole Kidman. A refreshing twist on the genera.

Redeemed only by an amazing performance from Olivia Thirlby when possessed by her mother, The Secret is dismally similar to far too many films, including family dramas like Freaky Friday. Were Olivia and David Ducovny not such great performers, The Secret would probably become down-right unbearable.

An interesting start, but it goes nowhere. The ending is lame.

A fascinating movie that centralizes around a small family torn apart after a tragic car accident in which both the daughter and the mother are critically injured. The wife/mother?s body dies, but her spirit is trapped within her daughter?s body. Great cast- Lili Taylor, David Duchovny, and Olivia Thirlby. Worth seeing!

OK movie I guess just not my usual type of entertainment. I wanted to fast forward through parts of it but Peach was over and I think he was tearing up. My girlfriend was interested so you girls out there may like it. Too much emotions and blah blah for me.

This movie is rather disturbing. There is something off-putting about a father and daughter sharing such a physical relationship because the daughter's body is haunted by the spirit of her mother. I did like the resolution in the end, but overall the whole movie was bothersome.

I was suprised at how much I enjoyed it. The romantic notion of love transcending death is one of the more appealing themes. Touches on taboo enough for some uncomfortableness but, they were handle tastefully and not exploided for shock value. There is a glaring hole in the script; the movies only weak spot is the mystical explanation for the transference, possession or multiple personality disorder, with a stock scene of some library research and contacting an intellectual who must have been conveniently close by. It suffers from being only 93 minutes. If an extra 15 or 20 minutes where there filling in the gaps and giving more time for the relationships it could have been much better. But the good acting more than makes up for these problems. Nicely acted by the beautiful Olivia Thirlby, whose mannerisms change enough to be convincing. Sadly Lili Taylor, a wonderful actress, is only in it for a short amount of time. And Duchovny is great as always. One more drawback. Some places have this marked as a thriller and some posters suggest this as well. Far from it. Why, I have no idea. But this is not a thriller.

This film had a decent cast, but some of them didn't seem to fit their parts. Now David Duchovny did a pretty good job. He seemed normal and the parts when he was losing it, he was very believable. Lili Taylor did a good job, but I wish she was in it more. Olivia Thirlby plays the daughter of Duchovny and Taylor. The mom's soul goes into the daughter, so through most of the movie, Thirlby had to pretend to act like Taylor. At parts it seemed like she was, but other parts not so much. I did on the other hand like the story a lot. The ending was a little off for me, but it wasn't terrible. The movie really didn't have a scare factor. The film sets itself up to be scary, but it is not. It is mentally creepy though. If you pay attention to the characters, you will see what I am talking about. So overall, it was decent, but not the best of its genre.

The synopsis makes it sound a lot more messed up than it actually is. It's a very good movie if you just give it a chance.

I?m not sure how this movie was pitched, but everything about the marketing led me to believe this was some sort of mystery thriller. But, this is a coming of age emotional ride movie that isn?t really very good for that. It jumps about in some odd directions and bizarre visual and performance points. It just didn?t come off with the right tone for me. Not sure what else to say about it other than that. This one just didn?t work for me. But if anyone is tuning in for a mystery, you won?t really get it. It just doesn?t work.

Very under rated movie. THis had been on my netflix list for a quite a while and I wasnt in the mood for another 'Freaky Fridayesque' movie. Glad I finally got around to watching this though.
First off it's not funny. It's beautiful, heart breaking and asks some interesting questions.
Great chemistry between Lili and David though I suspected there would be since they did so well together in one of David's 'x-files' episodes. Olivia Thirlby really steals this movie. Her vulnerability, anger, wonder and love she puts into both her characters is worth watching.

This plot of this movie has been done in some form a hundred times. What makes this one special is how the mother's spirit lives the life of her rebellious but gifted daughter.

Aside from the fact we all gave it total MST treatment, it actually wasn't terrible. But dude, it would totally suck to be in that kinda situation...for either one of them. I don't know...if you're David Duchovney do you swear off sex or do you go ahead and do your hormone-driven wife...who happens to be trapped in your daughter's body? Tough call. Oh, but if this ever does happen to you, just take some Special K and you'll be good to go apparently.

Freaky Friday meets Thirteen. I love it. David Duchovny probably didn't do as good a job as he's capable of, but man, Olivia Thirlby knocked it out of the park.

Wow.. I loved this movie.. it is not a feel good, happy movie.. but it is so well done.. I came as close to crying as I ever have (I've never really cried during a movie.. but a few movies get me close)..

Good acting, David is hot as usual. Creepy areas to dive into, was a little "grossed" out by some "ideas".

WOW, a suspenseful film , with an outstanding cast. The idea was simalar to the film "Freaky Friday" without the comedy and the moral values attached with it. It gave the viewer the inside look of today's teen's through the eyes of an adult.

After his wife and daughter are in a car accident, Duchovny finds his dead wife's spirit in his daughter's body. This drastically changes their interactions as the wife tries to fit into the daughter's life, and for the first time really gets to know her child.
Worth a rental, with a great performance by Olivia Thirlby, but otherwise somewhat uneven and bland, you'll only need to give it a look once, I'm sure.

Oh this was good. In a creepy kinda way. I liked the idea of what if you got another chance of actually getting to say Good-Bye to your loved ones and learning about each-other. How weird. But great performences, David D was awesome, kudos.

Wow this movie is nothing you can expect. For anyone wjo believes in spirits and reincarnation..this is for you.! This is such a sad and great movie of what a mothers love can do.

This was odd, I didnt like it at all!!!... i mean it was entertaining, but besides that small fact nothing about it was cool... The whole idea of a daughter and a father having these kinds of problems is disturbing... it just weird I guess.

A loving couple (David Duchovny and Lili Taylor) love their daughter Samantha (Olivia Thirlby) even though she definitely gets on their nerves quite often. While driving, mother and daughter get into an argument that leads to a brutal car crash, leaving both on the brink of death. As Samantha is about to die, her mother reaches out and somehow "transfers" her life into her daughter, killing her in the process. Or so they think. When Samantha wakes up though, she is actually the mother trapped in her daughter's body. This odd predicament obviously has Dad confused and otherwise befuddled, but he thinks it best for her to continue living their daughter's life as if everything is normal. It will be their little secret. Their hope is that the real Samantha will escape from whatever limbo she is in and return to her body. The Secret really had its back against the wall with such an odd premise. The marketing materials compare it to "Ghost" and there are some similarities, what with the mother helping her daughter remain "alive" because of her own love and sacrifice. That said, The Secret is a lot creepier (in a weird, not good way). The source of much of its creepiness is Duchovny's characters complaints. He realizes that even though his wife is technically with him, because she is in the form of his daughter, he is unable to make love to her. That doesn't prevent his wife from coming onto him, even while in her daughter's body. The performances are a mixed bag. Lili Taylor really doesn't have much to do as she is barely in the film. This is one of Duchovny's best works as he demonstrates the depth to his abilities. Thirlby is a relative newcomer but certainly has a long and illustrious career ahead. She plays this dual role with an expertise that few older actors could muster. Cherkis shows this tragedy with great humanity and sensitivity. She balances the required elements of a thriller with this emotional drama. She does have a perchance to stride over the line to the melodramatic limits at times. Occasionally the script feels more like something that Lifetime would show during a paranormal themed Sunday afternoon. This tendency is most likely due to lack of experience.

this is a very bland movie! i dont no really no if it was supposed 2 be scary or funny because i wasnt very scared or very lafing like! i think this movie is bland...but its very entertaning to no that someone actually thinks this s*** is good! lol
