It's shot well, the acting is mostly competent (even if the characters are not) and the pacing keeps it from being a complete bore. The problem with this film is it's inaccuracies. I'm all for dramatic license, but what's the term for changes that make a story less interesting? By reading up on the real Ed Gein on any website, you will get more chills and a general feeling of nausea and discomfort. This film offers none of that. The only reason for these changes are out of pure laziness and the want to cash in on a big name. However, in a film where Kane Hodder is cast as Gein what did I expect? I must gives props to Hodder who actually gave a good performance, it just wasn't the right performance for Ed Gein.

I am sure that in 1957 these gruesome murders did shock the world, and we thought Hannibal Lector was bad. If all that they showed in this movie were true (Most Based on a True Story, Lack the true Details), then old Ed was a pretty sick person. I am wondering just how sick I am for watching it, hummm. But as far as a review, not often I have to turn my head in a movie, but did on this one, the scenes were pretty graphic and having had a large number of bones broken over my life time jumping into jungles and trees from perfect flying aircraft, it just reminded me of pure pain. As far as the movie, wouldn't add it to any collection, wouldn't see it again, and wouldn't go to the dollar theater to see it, best I can do is 2 stars on this one.

Thought this would be awesome cause it basically was telling the true to life story of serial killer Ed Gain which the Texas Chainsaw Massacre killer Leatherface was loosely based on. Ummmm no it was really bad with nothing scary at all going on here.

I think they could have found a different actor for his part. Gein wasn't built. But other then that they did a pretty good job at some of the details.

Very unique insight of a derange man living with very normal people, I am very surprised he did not sexually assault some of his victims.

Not for the squeamish, not for children, but definitely for me. This horror flick was based on the real thing. Watch it, and see if you don't have to think about it a bit!

You asked and you beheld it.

Maybe because I live in Wisconsin, although far from truth, this movie based on actual events gave me the creeps.

It was good. I didn't think that Ed was fat but oh well how should I know. I still can't believe that is a true story. It was great movie.

Ed Gein - The Butcher of Plainfield was an ok movie. It was supposed to be about the famous serial killer who targeted women even going so far as to dig up graves. It was done in the style of remake as House of Wax or TCSM: The Beginning.
It was not great. They didn't stick to his life very closely. In this movie he is played by Kane Hodder, a man about twice the size of Ed in real life. Also they didn't go very deep into his psychosis. He played him kind of shallow.
If you want to see a good movie about Ed Gein rent In The Light of the Moon. -

I tired to watch this movie.
I love Kane Hodder.
I am sure that this would have been a good movie, but the sound was all messed up.
From what I have heard from other people, it's the same issue. The sound.
So until they fix the sound, I have no idea what to tell you.. -

Sick bastard! This is tame compared to the other Ed Gein flick, far from the true story than the other. View Ed Gein 2001, the actor's appearance is closer to the original killer.

Well I was hoping for more... Love Kane Hodder, he's my favorite Jason, the dude is just menacing! It wasn't that he did bad in this, it was just that I was expecting horror and this really didn't have any... They show you the gore, but kind leave out all the fright really, which is a total waste cause Kane Hodder can be freakin' frightening IMO....

Never knew they made a first and dont know why they made a second. This one might have been better than the first, dont know because havent seen the first. But, the real story about Gein was there and it was decent. The thing they need to work on is the horror behind it, they had the disgusting parts but not the horror, scary parts. A low budget film, but overall with the money they probably did spend it was an average 21 century horror film. The acting wasnt all there, but what do you expect from first timers. If you havent heard about the story of Ed Gein I would suggest watching this one, but dont expect a stand out film. The story told of him was average, thought it could of been better. If you want to watch people get cut up, watch this one.
