Do I want to watch it again and again? Yes, please! This is one of my alltime favorites, I've watched it over and over again and it amazes me every time. Gérard Depardieu and Patrick Dewaere play two guys in their twenties. They travel through France, steal cars and money, give themselves into the flow to do the next best thing and seduce every woman that passes their way. In episodes you witness how they meet the young hairdresser Marie-Ange (Miou-Miou), who completes the trio infernale; a young mother on her way to visit her husband; Jeanne (the incredible Jeanne Moreau), who comes directly out of jail and 17year old Jacqueline (Isabelle Huppert), who is on vacation with her parents. Every episode leads to the next.
The atmosphere of this movie is like a lazy summerday, very relaxed and you get the feeling, it could be the right way to live like there is no tomorrow. Beyond every moral or sexual restriction, they confront society with double moral standards.
Because my french is very poor, I watched a synchronized german version. It is originally like you expect the language from a 70s movie: "cool" phrases. But they somehow suit perfectly.
Don't take it too serious and avoid it, if you are highly sensitive.
I said that my French was too poor to watch the movie in it's original language, but today I watched a subtitled version. And with the help of the English subtitles, I WAS able to get the French words. The translation in the dubbed German version is pretty accurate, when it comes to transporting the meaning, but the words in the dubbed version are much more offhand and flippant, than in the original French version. It has also much more bad jokes and remarks in it, and the talking is more. For example, when Jean-Claude and Patrick Dewaere walk down the street in the first scene, after they stole "Ursula's" handbag, they talk very little in French, but they do a lot of talking and joking in the dubbed version. It is like that in many, many scenes.
So, no matter what version you choose, I hope you will love this movie as much as I do.
A very, very black and a very delightful comedy. Learn about the dangers of karaoke, the delight of male voice choirs and why Wales must be really worth a visit.
Jeremy (Rhys Ifans) and Julian (Llyr Evans) live in Swansea. A "Pretty, Shitty City". Their interests are diazepams, pot, mushrooms, sniffing glue and stealing cars.
Bryn Cartwright (William Thomas), who resides in a fancy house called "Ponderosa", is wealthy and a real asshole. He bribes everyone and has everything the way he wants it. Until he pisses the twins off, when their father Fatty (Huw Ceredig) falls off Bryn's roof while moonlighting for him. Bryn refuses to pay the hospital bill and a vendetta starts, that ends up with a little more than a few broken limbs. The twins get out of their lethargy, as everyone always wanted them to!
Oh, and the police is not able to stop the violation...it is completely involved into it.
Jeremy Lewis: What's your handicap, Bryn? [Smashes golf club into Bryn's knee] Bryn Cartwright: [In agony, with tape over his mouth] MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! Jeremy Lewis: Not bad.
Bryn: Where the fuck do you think you're going? Chip: When? Bryn: What do you mean WHEN...Now! Chip: What? Bryn: Fucking WHAT me, you pillock. WHERE are you going? Chip: When? Bryn: Now, you moron!! Chip: Fatty told me to get some Hobnobs. Bryn: Fuck, Fatty. Get back up thoose ladders and get on with the job. And don't Bryn me. It's Mr. Cartwright to you. All right? Mr. Cartwright!
Arvid Blixen leads a well adjusted, but extremely boring life. Everything is routine, his job in a bank and his relationship with Henne. He smells his chance for a change when his bank gets robbed by Franz and Arvid strikes down the robber with his squash racket. As a bonus he gets 14 days off work and plans to take his girlfriend on a long promised trip to Paris.
Things don't turn out the way he wants them to! When he gets home his appartement is cleared. There is nothing left except the TV and a message written on the livingroom-wall: "Kiss my arse, Arvid!". But it is getting worse, a woman stands in front of his door, knocks him down and tells him that she is the bankrobbers girlfriend, and they needed the money for artificial fertilization.
His girlfriend is gone, his flat empty and his alleged heroic action turns out to be nothing than a failure. Arvid has a lot of time now and decides to do something to better his situation and help other people. He visits his brother Harold, who runs a restaurant with his pals Martin and Peter. They are all small-time criminals, who gladly agree to rob a money transporter and to free Franz.
While making plans and doing rehersals for their project, some people get accidently killed and soon the Yugoslavian mafia is behind them to have their revenge.
A very funny movie, that shows human depths in the most delightful way. A twisted story, that never turns to the logical thing to happen next, but always for the most awkward. Black humour, that will make you break off your laughter, because you will realize that it is not too funny, what you just have started laughing about.
As Harold gets released from jail, he starts to visit all his loved-ones. Martin and Peter, who want to join a bakery-competition with their own secret recipe for braided yeast buns and his foster-dad Monk, who lies on his death-bed, longing for his never seen Swedish son Ludvig. Harold, Martin and Peter hurry to Sweden, to create a cunning plan to free Ludvig and to take him to his father.
Stupidly Ludvig is a women's killer and soon the women around him start to drop dead by "accident".
As if those troubles weren't enough, suddenly a chance to save Monk appears. Organ trade is expensive, and so a bank robbery and soccer bets become necessary. Needless to say that everything goes wrong. The woman, they take as a hostage while robbing the bank, is highly suicidal and the soccer-club, who was supposed to fuck up the game, wins.
It is always good to see old friends again. And you don't only get Harold, Martin and Peter back! I bet you have missed Vuk and Erling...and you will meet them again in a completely unexpected way...
Ludvig: Well, I lived with my mother till I was twelve. Mille: I thought you said she died when you were nine. Ludvig: Yes, she did. [pause] Mille: Oh you're so sweet...
Peter (in Danish): Ask him for a conference room. Martin (in Danish): Ask him yourself! Peter (in English): Do you have a room? Clerk (in English): Yes, we have many rooms. Peter (in English): We want to hold meet. Clerk (in English): You want to hold meat? Peter (in English): Yes, with a towel. Clerk (in English): You want to hold MEAT, in a ROOM, with a TOWEL?
Wilbur (Jamie Sives) wants to kill himself, but fails everytime he tries to. He always ends up being rescued, joining his suicidal support group hosted by the extraordinary Dr. Horst (Mads Mikkelsen). Luckily Wilbur is a cynical misanthrope and fits into this group very well. Until the rest of the group throws him out.
To be under protection, Wilbur moves in with his brother Harbour (Adrian Rawlins). Their father passed away and now Harbour runs the family business. A bookshop. And what a bookshop they have! The kind of bookshop I'd like to live in for a year or two.
Harbour meets Alice (Shirley Henderson), who works as a cleaningwoman in a hospital. They soon become a couple and live a fairly happy life together. Still rescuing Wilbur from killing himself. But then something unexpected happens and Harbour sickens from a serious disease. Wilbur suddenly is not the one everyone worries about anymore.
Wilbur: Does "Horst" mean sausage in German? Dr. Horst: No, but you are close.
Wilbur: Are you somehow related to the "Man They Call Horst"? Dr. Horst: Yes, I believe so. On my mother's side.
Harbour: What's it like, being dead? Wilbur: It's dull as dishwater. It's silent and completely dark... it's like being in Wales.
Yes, you SHOULD watch this movie! Screw the Fassbinder-version. Günther Lamprecht is alright, but Heinrich George is the perfect, sturdy but harmless, Franz Biberkopf. I pitied him and was disgusted by him at the same time. Franz Biberkopf tries to lead an honest life after being released from jail. But being a weak character, he soon gets involved in the shady dealings of Reinhold.
Stefan and Kai own a pizza delivery service, but nobody cares about pizza. It's cannabis the clients order. Very endearing characters, absurd dialogs and relaxed music by Calexico, Jimmie's Chicken Shack and Ween. This movie is so funny and witty, it made me laugh out loud. And that means a lot, I can't even remember the last time a movie triggered more than a smile. "The coolness has to resonate in the subtext."
This is one of my alltime favorites! I know, some people have serious issues with Helge Schneider's kind of humour. For me he is a genius and this is the best german comedy. Awkward, absurd and confusing. It is a crime-story. Nihil Baxter murdered the clown Bratislav Metulskie and 00 Schneider tries to convict him. Most parts were played by Helge. The story is lousy and the incidents make hardly any sense. The actors often start laughing, not because the script says to do so, just because what they are saying is absurd, improvised and funny and they weren't able to hold back.
"Three Gentlemen in a room- bad hm, you can't lick pussy there."
This movie is maybe the best comedy I have ever seen. Maybe the most perfect movie too. And I have seen it at least ten times. My whole family gathered in front of the TV today to watch it and we were all able to recite nearly every funny scene. Loriot is a genius. His humour is never shallow, never cheap. He just reveals how people are when they are talking with their kids, meeting their relatives on a reunion, or are arguing with their significant other. They are not talking with each other, just against each other.
Heinrich Lohse is forced to retire. Now, he wants to reorganize his whole household and to spend a lot of time with his wife and his son. They are not very fond of that thought! And Heinrich is soon getting on their nerves, while he is attending poetry readings with his wife, accompanying her while shopping intimates or trying to go grocery shopping. You wouldn't believe how much discount you will get when you buy not only one glass of mustard, but one hundred.
This movie has great moments. And Barbara Stanwyck's acting is awesome as usual.
Judge Forbes: I thought you'd prefer cash. Five thousand dollars. Merely for leaving town, immediately.
Kitty Lane: What are you trying to make of me--what you wish I was? Something cheap and common, something that money can buy? Well, you can't. Nobody can! You and the nice, decent people who sent you here are the real cheap ones ... trying to put a price on something there isn't any price for. If that's being decent, I'm glad I'm common! If that's being rich, I'm glad I'm cheap, and I'm gonna stay cheap! Because no matter how cheap I am, I'm not for sale!
"I'm healthy as a horse, I'm fit as a fiddle and I'm ready for cock."
Joanna (Kathleen Turner) is a classy fashion designer by day and the seductive and absolute sexy prostitute China Blue by night. Bobby Grady (John Laughlin), an unhappy husband, follows Joanna to find out, if her reputable side has to hide something. He finds out. And he finds more than a little truth with Joanna, while the Reverend (Anthony Perkins) one of her clients, is obsessed with China Blue. And while she indulges in the endless opportunities her profession has to offer, she obviously underrates it's dangerousness and the perils it brings with it.
I have seen this movie for more than ten times and I would always do it again. Kathleen Turner is breathtaking, beautiful, flippant and her sexy voice makes me shiver. And Anthony Perkins shows that he can play the perfect lunatic.
Peter Schlönske is a big fan of the weekly TV-Show "Wittiness Knows No Limits". The host of that show, Heinz Wäscher, is his big idol. He admires him and he wants to be like him. Peter lives with his mother and his grandparents, works in his mother's shop, but dreams of an exciting life in the media scene.
It seems like his big chance has come, when he joins a talent-show. The winner will be part of "Wittiness Knows No Limits". But Peter fails. He just gets a job as a temporary worker. He meets his idol, the great Heinz Wäscher, and learns soon, that he is only a choleric misanthrop. Heinz screws up every show, and other people get punished for it. It is not all gold, that glitters, and Peter gets desillusioned. He works against the system, tries to change things, succeeds, and becomes a famous show-host himself! But will he be able to resist all the little temptations of showbiz? Or will he end up as a perfect copy of the invidious Heinz Wäscher?
This media satire is one of the best satires i shave ever seen. Every little moment, every detail is polished and hilariously funny! Hape Kerkeling is always a guarantee for a witty, intelligent and absolutely delightful movie.

Trinity and Bambino, two brothers, have not much in common- at first sight. Trinity let's himself drift from town to town, living from trickeries and his bad reputation. His brother Bambino is a Sheriff... since he shot the real Sheriff by accident. Now he plans a big horse robbery under the protection of the star on his chest. Trinity and Bambino help a group of Mormons to fight against "The Major", a real bad guy, and a bunch of stupid Mexicans. But not unselfishly. Just because they like fistfights and because they want to get the horses!
A very laid back spaghetti western-comedy. Funny, entertaining and the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I have watched all Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movies, more than once. And they are always worth another watch.
- "What could I do? He called our mother an old whore." - "But that is the truth!" - Well...she is not THAT old!"
Irena (Nastassja Kinski) lived her entire life in orphanages and foster families. Finally she meets her long missed brother Paul (Malcolm McDowell) in New Orleans. They debauch in memories about their infant life in a circus and Irena feels the strong connection between her and her brother.
In New Orleans a black leopard makes trouble. At night he kills young women, especially prostitutes. One night, after it attacked a woman in a hotelroom, local zookeeper manage to catch the wildcat and put it into their zoo. Irena explores New Orleans, and while visiting the zoo, she begins to draw the black leopard. And you see in her eyes, that she somehow recognizes the cat. She begins to assume, that the appearance of the cat has something to do with the disappearance of her brother Paul.
Irena befriends Oliver (John Heard) and Alice (Annette O'Toole), who are both amazingly attractive and who work in the zoo. Irena falls in love with Oliver. But when Paul shows up again, he tells her, that there can be only one way for her to be in love with a person and to have sex. Incest, with him. Irena does not want to believe in what he says, but she starts to fear that he might be right and that there might be a more about her, than she knows herself.
One of the funniest moments of the movie is without a doubt the scene after the leopard has attacked the prositute Lucy and she robs down the stairs and accidently loses her bra.
I usually am very careful with remakes. Especially, when I like the original. "Cat People" is only loosely based on the 1942's version. It has a wonderful atmosphere, great colors and outstanding performances from all actors. The swimmingpool-scene, which I really liked in the 40's version, is luckily as well in the 82's version, as the creepy, species-inappropriate zoo with it's old cages.
"Always act, like the world is exactly the way, as the people want to believe it is."
Erik Zander writes his last will, chooses a nice and peaceful place for his grave and gets killed right afterwards. Nobody in the little Swedish village he lives in, seems to be awfully sorry to see him dead. The contrary. Erik was a loner, but incredibly wealthy. And since he lived alone and had no relatives, everyone waits for the auction to get a piece of his big property, for little money.
You can imagine their disappointment, when Fanny (Helena Bergström) shows up at the funeral and declares herself as Erik's Granddaughter. She and her companion Zac (Rikard Wolff) are different. They are open-minded, open-hearted, loud and they scare the shit out of the conservative people with just being like they are. Everyone hopes they will go back to where they come from, but Fanny and Zac do not show the slightest inclination to do so.
The people see Fanny and Zac as the freaks, who just disturb the peace in the little village, but of course everyone has more than one corpse to hide in the closet. It is just the "fear of the unknown", that makes them start the "Third World War" against Fanny and Zac.
Fanny soon seduces some inhabitants, who just can't resist talking with her and spending time in her company. She is not willing to give in easily, without trying to change the attitude of the ones who seem to hate her.
"If they want to talk, I'll give them something to talk about."
If you have ever felt like you are the only one of your kind and like you don't belong, you will understand this movie very well.
