JSA: Joint Security Area (Gongdong gyeongbi guyeok JSA)

The Fountain 2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
A film about life, death and love with so many layers and symbols you could get lost in it.
Great actors, amazing photography and a very powerful screenplay make of this movie one of my favourite Aronofsky's works, as well as one of the most beautiful and meaningful films I've ever seen
5
I'm Not There 2007,  R)
I'm Not There
One of the best biopics I've seen so far. Very different from conventional tale-about-the-great-rockstar type of film, just like Dylan isn't a common rockstar. I really liked all the choices and solutions of the director, and the confused but poetic script. I think both Dylan fans and non can highly enjoy this.

I Don't Want to Sleep Alone (Hei yan quan) 2006,  Unrated)
I Don't Want to Sleep Alone (Hei yan quan)
Sweet, desperate but delicate, this film is one of my all time favourites. It is very slow, that's true, but that pace makes it even more enjoyable for me.
7
I Heart Huckabees 2004,  R)
I Heart Huckabees
"How am I not myself?" or "nothingness is somethingnes, somethingnes is nothingness"...these are just a few of the philosophical and religious questions asked in this apparently "light" comedy about a couèle of existential detectives, and a 20-something year old in seek for some answers about the Big Picture.
8
Dolls 2002,  Unrated)
Dolls
One of the sweetest, most romantic, saddest movies about love I've ever seen. And all without even a single kiss. Kitano is once again amazing.
9
The Big Lebowski 1998,  R)
The Big Lebowski
One of the best film characters ever, The Dude is nothing but a model of life, the perfect lazy and chilled-out guy that everyone would like to be. For me, this movie represents the Coen bros at their best.
10
Chinese Odyssey 2002 2002,  Unrated)
Chinese Odyssey 2002
Funny and entertaining in a very clever way, with many references to traditional Chinese culture and some classic story plots. I simply love this film, plus Tony Leung is brilliant, as usual.
11
Il Divo 2008,  Unrated)
Il Divo
One of the best Italian films of recent years. A breathtaking performance by Servillo and a masterly direction by Sorrentino contribute to make it one of the best political films ever made in Italy.
12
Green Snake 1993,  Unrated)
Green Snake
ancient Chinese mithology, love and some action are the perfect mix on this film, which at first I found quite strange and difficult to understand, but then the more I was watching it the more I started to love it. One hing I found really interesting and beuatiful about the film is the mix between good and evil, which are never clearly separated as they would be in a similar movie made by Westerners.
13
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
Pulp genius
14
I Cento passi (One Hundred Steps) (The Hundred Steps) 2000,  PG)
I Cento passi (One Hundred Steps) (The Hundred Steps)
One of my favourite Italian movies, I Cento Passi is moving and amusing at the same time. Amazing performance from the cast.
15
Pi 1998,  R)
Pi
Mathematics, economics, international crime, patterns to decode the apparent chaos of the world. Pi is not only a masterpiece film with a great direction, it is also something that will make you ponder, fear, want to know more about many things. It is also my favourite of Aronofsky's films.
16
The Birds 1963,  PG-13)
17
Dead Poets Society 1989,  PG)
Dead Poets Society
The film that made me dream since I was 14...a story about passion, poetry, the importance of education and free spirit.
18
Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1974,  PG)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
One of the best classic laugh-out-loud films. It will never bore me, and never fail to make me laugh from beginning to end.

Zatôichi (The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi) 2003,  R)
Zatôichi (The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi)
20
Mulholland Drive 2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
Twin Peaks at his best.As usual for Lynch, the main theme of jealousy is brought forward in many incredible, anxious and visually beautiful ways. This is really a memorable film.
21
Control 2007,  R)
Control
One of the best biopics I've ever seen, as well as a breathtaking film, Control is not just another film about a band and the tragic death of its lead singer, it is a passionate and delicate work about the drama of a man, trapped between two worlds and unable to cope with the life he has chosen. Unbelievably beautiful.
22
Hamlet 1996,  PG-13)
Hamlet
The best, most faithful and felt rendering of the great Shakespeare's classic. Kenneth Branagh's performance is breathtaking.
23
Gran Torino 2008,  R)
Gran Torino
24
Ashes of Time Redux 1994,  R)
25
Todo Modo 1976,  Unrated)
Todo Modo
No doubt, this is the best Elio Petri film I've seen. I wish this was more famous than Roman Holidays or La Dolce Vita, because it deserves it!
26
Brokeback Mountain 2005,  R)
Brokeback Mountain
A delicate and astonishing account of two gay lovers in the macho society of cowboys in 1960's US. This film never fails to touch me, and fills my eyes with beautiful images hard to forget (without mentioning the incredible performance by the two leading actors).

Once Upon a Time in China 1991,  R)
Once Upon a Time in China
I loved this film because it is not the usual martial arts film, but it's a mix of fighting, adventure and drama perfectly directed and set on a very peculiar and troubled time of Chinese history. I would recommend this to anyone!!!
