My Favorite Movies

1
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) 1981,  PG)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
One of my favorite films of all time, if not the favorite. Never before or since has such an exciting ride been assebled on film. Everything works.
2
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
Everyone agrees that the opening and ending battle scenes are masterful, but many aren't so fond of the rest of the film. Well, I am.
3
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
In heaven, this movie is playing on loop.
4
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
As good as movies get. Probably the best of the series, but when they're all so good, it hardly seems worth choosing.
5
The Fugitive 1993,  PG-13)
The Fugitive
One of my very favorite movies.
6
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
7
Jurassic Park 1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
This movie brings me back to my childhood every time I watch it. Probably the seminal moviegoing experience of my life. Critics complain that the characters are uninteresting, but I disagree. Goldblum's Dr. Iam Malcolm is one of my all-time favorites, as is Muldoon, The Game Hunter.
8
Seven (Se7en) 1995,  R)
Seven (Se7en)
Not pleasant, but certainly satisfying. One of the greatest movie endings of all time.
9
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Be warned: The Dark Knight is not a happy movie. It does not make you feel good. It's the Empire Strikes Back to Batman Begins' Star Wars. More depth, more pain, more people, and a hell of a lot darker. Whereas the first film was about Batman inspiring hope, this one is about him facing the reality of what he's created, and how far away his dream of order in Gotham really is. Like any great work of art, it leaves you exhausted. Truly a cathartic experience. A third movie will be hard pressed to top this, but I say bring on the Ewoks.
10
The Edge 1997,  R)
The Edge
One of my very favorite movies. Tons of survival fun. Criminally underrated.
