Batman Begins
Bale is erfect for this role! he is mysterious, dark, deep and inteliigent, cool and penetrating. He stature and demnor is played to perfection against the cartoon/ comic Batman. He is brought back an old icon with renewed emphasis, entusiasm and enegry. We can believe in a Btaman, this Batman...we can dream that he is out there because Bale pump life into it. With great supporting line-p like Caine, Freeman and Neeson, the movie keeps moving even when there are no ation of special effects. These actors bring in an air of sophistication that a billionaire would have been srrounded by. Bruce and Bale seems synonymous now. Nolan, the director really kept the film beautiful, giving only waht need to be seen and heard--nothing seem out of place or haning loose; one is satisfied at the end of the movie!

The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951,  G)
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Though old school in technology, and seemingy antiquated this film never ceases to bring the thrilling, hair-raising mood that shows our fear of the unknown. The suspense is electrifying as things are doen slowly and methodically with fanfare and dazzling movie FX. Though it is considered sci-fi, the elemental theme of man's distruct for anything alein to him is heighten and substantially affecting. We are curious and want to know about this novelty but we are able to keep our space because our instinct is to believe it a harm first, thus shot now ask later behavior. It also makes us very aware of our inadequacies and how trivial the group cliques we practice so diligently and rigorously, like nationalism, and gangs, etc are in the scope of humanity and its survival! For this reason, the film is a timeless classic; an opus that resonates with evryone on this earth-survival.

Voices of a Distant Star 2002,  Unrated)
Voices of a Distant Star
A powerful piece with great sensibility...although it is set in outer space with a futuristic atmosphere, its universal theme is very grounded: love! Distance cannot curtail the feelings that one in love can bring. The characters are thorough, deep, smartly created; the plot refreshing; the storyline enjoyable, gripping and beautiful. The anime was quite sharp and spirited, nothing really amiss. Shinkai has a shrewd talent for storytelling and lots of heart! Wish it could have been longer, but this way the impact was a slam dunk.

Slumdog Millionaire 2008,  R)
Slumdog Millionaire
The untilmate rags to riches in every way! Naturally the only way to really be grateful of wealth is to have experience abject poverty...in Slumdog Millionaire, our hero has felt the pains and pangs of being down and out both physically and psychologically/ emotionally. But his good attitude and optimism is never reduced: it is the one thing he has going for him. With love in his heart and a "doctorate" degree from the school of "hard knocks", Jamal Malik is able to extract the right answers, so fittingly illustrated with flashbacks, for the questions on a game show that asks us to be microscopic about life outside our own world. Thus, the journey of Malik's life will prove to be fertile grounds for encouraging and perpetuating the worst in a person because when survival is the goal, morality is not an option. However, Jamal will overcome unlike his brother, Salim, who submits but is really the ultimate victim, hero and savior of Jamal. An expose of sorts on poverty wrapped in a lovely woven romance. Soul, heart, smarts and enough action to engage every audience. Empowering at best. A+
