The genre defining war movie. My personal favorite of the entire war genre. Spielberg creates a masterpiece that is filmed in such an excellent way, the camera work is absolutely perfect for the movie. Tom Hanks gives another brilliant performance and proves he's one of the more diverse actors of this age. The best war movie to date.
Everything about this film is perfect. From the opening scene, probably my favorite opening scene, with The End by The Doors playing. That scene actually really got me into The Doors and now they're one of my favorite bands. But nevermind that, the whole movie is just fucking amazing. The acting, Martin Sheen gives an outstanding performance, a very underrated one. Duvall steals the show with his role as Col. Killgore. Brando like always does an awesome job as the insane Col. Kurtz. He delivers one of the famous lines in the movie,"The horror, the horror."(of course the most famous line from the movie is Killgore's "I love the smell of napalm in the morning....") The cinematography is breathtaking, one of my top 5 most "beautiful" films ever. 2nd favorite war movie, only behind Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan.
Probably the best movie about true friendship. Such a beautiful, amazing picture that at the end left me with such a happy, great feeling, the only other movie to match that feeling would Its a Wonderful Life. Perfect in every sense of the word.
Amazing movie with superb acting. Every lead role is done so well. I really have enjoyed this movie and suggest anyone who hasn't seen it to see it soon.
A completely new, creative movie from Christopher Nolan. Delivers a unique, awesome story and Guy Pearce is absoluetly phenomonal. One of(if not the) best movies of this decade.
Such a delightful, charming movie. James Stewart proves once again why I think he's the best actor ever and why I love his acting so much. Funny and uplifting, a great movie for everyone to see.
Wow. Oliver Stone has created a marvel of a film with JFK. The shortest 3 hour movie I watched. The film engrossed me and kept me interested throughout. Kevin Costner delivered a terrific performance as Jim Garrison alongside a great cast. A movie I think everyone should see.
Wow I don't know yet but Brando is this movie may be better than Stewart in Mr. Smith. An excellent movie and I'm partly ashamed it took me so long to see it. Parts of it almost brought me to tears, the classic cab scene, the dead pigeon scene, and the end. An amazing movie and one of the best ever.
A truly eye-opening, moving movie. Edward Norton is absolutely amazing. One of the best movies made in the past 10 years. Hell it's one of the best movies EVER made. It's crafted beautifully and tells such a moving story. 10/10.
The classic teen movie from the 80's, my favorite "teen movie". Marty McFly and Doc team up and back through time. A funny, adventurous movie with one of my favorite scenes, Marty McFly playing Johnny B Goode in front of his parent's high school before the song was released. Hilarious and fun, a great movie for all ages.
Best movie I've seen this year. All the acting was absolutely incredible. The cinematography was beautiful. Everybody needs to go see this as soon as possible.
How could I not like a movie that takes a lot after Goodfellas? Another great movie from Scorsese, can't believe it took me so long to this entire movie. I love that style Scorsese uses in a lot of his movies with the narratives. I also love the soundtracks he uses and the way he incorporates the music into the movie. Both elements shown very well in this movie.
Fantastic movie. I don't know why but I love the setting of Boston in movies. My favorite movie directed by Clint Eastwood to date. Great murder mystery thriller.
The only Welles movie I've seen so far. Classic score, classic cinematography, classic everything. The famous Cat in the Alley scene from this movie is a favorite of mine. A classic that I think almost anyone could enjoy, being that it's at a higher pace than most older movies.
Forrest Gump is a true American movie. It goes through about 40-50 years of our history and does it in such a great fashion, showing many different parts of our nation. Tom Hanks does such a superb job as Forrest Gump, a truly spectacular job. My favorite from the huge 1994, well deserved Best Picture Oscar. An American marvel.
A great film that is really unique. Kevin Spacey moves into my favorite actors after this movie, great performance by him. The soundtrack was really including "All Right Now", "American Woman", and "All Along the Watchtower". Then of course "Because" by The Beatles used over the credits, perfect song to end the movie. An amazing, funny, drama, that everyone should see. Instant Classic.
Kubrick was so ahead of his time and this movie is proof of that. A true masterpiece with such an interesting story and characters. I'd love to see all the coverage this movie got when it came out in 1971, with all the sex, nudity, and violence it had. A great film and probably my 2nd favorite Kubrick film.
After seeing this again I must say it's my favorite Super-Hero movie to date. Batman was my childhood hero and idol so I guess have somewhat a soft spot for the Bat. :P Bale is awesome and badass as usual and Nolan delivers another great film. Seeing it again gets me really pumped for The Dark Knight. :D
Possibly my favorite comedy ever. This movie is so funny. I don't know if anyone else could have played The Dude better than Jeff Bridges. Some many parts in this movie had me cracking up, most notably the when they spread Donnie's ashes and Walter brings up Vietnam. The Coen Brothers deliver once again, solidifying themselves as some of the best modern day directors. Instant-Classic.
Citizen Kane, AFI's top movie of all-time as well as topping many other lists. I guess you could say the general movie population's consensus is that this is the best movie ever made. Well I can see why. It's hard to put into words how I feel about Citizen Kane. Parts of the movie dragged, most notably parts in the middle. The beginning was excellent as well was the end. The middle just had some scenes that seemed to drag on. But still this doesn't damper the entire experience, the way the movie is wrapped up from start to finish, "Rosebud," it's basically, beautiful. As the end was nearing I felt as if this really didn't live up to the hype but seeing Rosebud, his sled, burning in the furnace, it just ended the movie exactly how it should have. Like I said it's hard to put into words. Besides that, the acting is spectatular, exactly what I expected from Orson Welles and the cast. The cinematography is beautiful and it's perfectly directed film. I still find it remarkable that Orson Welles at the age of 26 I think, directed, acted, and wrote this movie. Anyway, the score, it's hard for me not to give this a 10/10, but I still think the middle's pacing is an issue and I can't give it a 10 as of now. I'll give it a 9/10 and suggest it to any of you movie fans out there.
Is it the greatest movie of all-time? In my opinion, no. I can understand how someone could give it that nod, but in my opinion, being as un-biased as possible, I'd say this does not rank as the best movie of all time.
Terrifying, Shocking, Disturbing, Depressing, Sad, and just great. The unique editing and filmmaking is very interesting and neat. This should be required viewing for all High School students. After seeing the movie I don't want to touch drugs ever.
One of my favorite westerns. Paul Newman and Robert Redford make for one of the best pairings in movies. The movie follows these two bank robbing outlaws as they make they're way to Bolivia. Newman and Redford continually make the movie funny with their quick wit. A great western for anyone into movies.
I saw this for the first time last year in Civics class. While most of my classmates were sleeping and complaining about it being in black and white, I was completely tuned in, loving every minute of the film. I love these kind of movies, the drama/crime/suspense/trial movies. After the movie, Henry Fonda quickly became a favorite actor of mine, complete awesomness.
Wow. Pan's is probably my 2nd favorite movie from last year. The acting by all the characters was fantastic, Ivana Baquero gave a stunning performance as just the child she is. The score is absolutely amazing as well, very memorable, I'm shocked it didn't take the oscar for best score. Now for the cinematography, breath-taking. One of the top 5 most "beautiful" films I've ever seen. A must-see for the cinematography alone. Superb film and it truly is a fairy tale for adults.
Great noir and it only makes me wonder why Kurosawa didn't pursue more Noir movies(maybe he did I'm not completely knowledgable on what he made :P ) Good movie I enjoyed a lot and would suggest to any fan of noirs, Japanese cinema, or just the great Kurosawa/Mifune team.
Sometimes I question if I do indeed like this better than Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, with further viewings it may surpass Pulp Fiction. The dialog is memorable, I love the bits about what "What a Virgin" really is about and tipping waitresses. That opening walking scene is almost iconic, it's one of my favorite opening scenes ever. The movie develops beautifully and is made so well. Action, suspense, and great dialog. Awesome movie. Oh and it also got me hooked on "Stuck in the Middle With You". ;\
One of my favorite sci-fi movies ever. I've seen it countless times and it always leaves noticing something and liking it more and more. The lobby shootout scene is my favorite shootout out of all the movies I've seen. Top-notch special effects and an instant classic. One of the best movies of the 90's.
The defining movie of the horror genre. Psycho is one of the most revolutionizing movies ever, it completely changed the way horror movies were made. The infamous shower scene can be looked at as one of the first truly terrifying moments in film. Anthony Perkins who plays the twisted Norman Bates is absolutely perfect, his performance may be one of my favorites of all-time. The movie is great and the definition of horror and Hitchcock.
While I do believe this movie is somewhat overrated, it's still very good, good enough to land at the #41 spot in my Top 50. So much stuff happens in this movie, it's quite amazing. Tarantino creates another movie with such great dialog and a good storyline. A star-studded cast with Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis. Many memorable scenes and conversational exchanges from the movie. Tarantino struck gold with this movie, a gem from the 90's.
Jamie Foxx was outstanding, I was quite amazed at his performance. I really loved this movie a lot, partly because I love Ray Charles's music but mostly because it was great. A must-see for any fan of music. 9.5/10
I'm assuming EVERYONE has seen this movie. It's probably the most well known name in the movie industry. The start of the epic, famous trilogy and later a "duotrilogy" :P. This movie has it all, action, adventure, love, deep-space, traps/tarps, and Harrison Ford. Some many iconic things from this movie: dialog, characters, scenes. This movie is one of the biggest influences in film and completely revolutionized the industry in the 70s's. A classic movie that only people living under rocks haven't seen.
This movie personally touched me on a level not many other movies have. Mostly due to the fact that I've struggled with and feel for the main character, Will Hunting. Not to be pretentious, but I am a "gifted" individual like Will Hunting. I know how he feels because that's how I've felt before, some of the things he says ring so true and have my exact feelings in many situations. Outside of the personal connection the movie makes with me it's great. Matt Damon proves himself one of the best young actors out there and Robin Williams wonderfully pulls off a more serious role. Great writing from Dillon and one of the best of the 90's.
One of my favorite sports movies. Rocky, the washed up boxer from Phildelphia, takes on the champion of the world, Apollo Creed in what should be a fast fight. He ends up going the distance with Creed and the movie delivers one of the most heartwarming, inspiring movies of all-time. Watching the fight, I was cheering for Rocky as if it were a real fight on TV. A shiver ran down my body when Rocky clocks Creed and sends him to the floor in the 2nd round. Stallone's acting isn't top-notch but it's a great movie nonetheless.
An all-out fun, entertaining zombie movie. My favorite of all the zombie movies made. The setting and idea is so awesome, people trapped in a mall, up against a zombie epidemic. The mall seemly a weird place to set up "base" turns out to be perfect, lending many supplies to the survivors. It's filled with action, gore, suspense, and some comedy.(the fact that these brain-dead zombies still go to the mall like it was any other day is amusing) Great 70's horror/zombie flick.
If I had to use one word to describe LoA, it would be Beautiful. One of the most beautifully shot films ever, among my top 5 movies based on cinematography alone. Aside that, Peter O'Toole gives the performance of a lifetime as T.E. Lawrence. Alec Gusiness is also great. One of the best movies of the 60's and a must-see for all movie fans.
Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, and directed by Martin Scorsese, how could not like this movie? Another awesome movie from Scorsese, I just love the way he makes and films his movies.
Very funny. I really enjoyed The Simpsons movie and thought it was one of the best, if not the best, tv show to movie movies. I was laughing throughout the picture and it was just a really fun movie to go see. The plot was somewhat weak but that's why I went to see it. I went to see it to laugh and for my love of the Simpsons and it fulfilled both of those for me. If you're a fan of the Simpsons go see it now.
One of the best of 2007. A damn funny movie and a great parody of the action and cop buddy genre movies. I actually think I liked Hot Fuzz more than I liked Shaun of the Dead. Great movie, very hilarious.
Hilarious movie filled with heart. Some many parts had many cracking up, most notably Alan Arkin's "Fuck a lot of women" speech, the whole body snatching scene, the cop and the porn magizines, ect. Steve Carrell was probably the funniest and my favorite in the movie, partly due to my love of The Office. I think he's one of the best "comedic" actors out there and can do a good job in a somewhat more serious role. I can't wait to own it on DVD.
Fucking hilarious movie. My stomach hurt from laughing so much after watching it. Many memorable quotes and scenes. Steve Carell is undoubtedly my favorite modern comedic actor.
Funny movie. Very clever writing and witty dialog. The movie goes downhill a little bit in the second half though and it is somewhat overrated. Still a great little movie for the money spent to make it and one of the funnier movies I've seen.
