2
High Plains Drifter 1973,  R)
High Plains Drifter
Possibly my all time favorite Clint Eastwood film. Everything and everyone in this movie looks so gritty and authentic. "Wait a minute, where's our horses? We had horses when you locked us up!"
Reply:
"What do you think you been eatin' for the last six months!"

Beautifully directed by John Boorman, this movie may be the best of the sword & sorcery genre.
9
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
This movie came out during one of the most depressing times of my life. I think saw it six times in the theatre and it still never gets old.
10
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The coup de grace of the LOTR trilogy. Wonderfully directed and overflowing with mindblowing suspense and epic battles; but I'm still waiting for Peter Jackson''s Special Edition that's rumoured to be in the final stages of production, where he edits out Orlando Bloome's shoddy acting.
11
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Another fantasic installment in the LOTR trilogy marred only by Orlando Bloome's lousy acting.
12
Sling Blade 1996,  R)
Sling Blade
Another one of my fav's. Great performances all around. Helen and I knew that Tripper boy was going to turn into a fine actor; it's a shame his life was cut short at such an early age.

Apocalypto
Historically accurate and gory as all Hell - Mel, you may be a anti-Semite but you sure know how to make good movies!

The Naked Prey
One of the best adventure movies ever made. An oldie but a goodie!!
22
The Hills Have Eyes 2006,  R)
The Hills Have Eyes
One of my favorite horror movies! I usually don't care for remakes of old classics, but I HAVE to make an exception for this film, as it is in many ways better than the original! Pluto is one scary mutant.

I saw this with my older brother 3 or 4 times when it came out in the theatre! Long before digital effects, Jim Henson and Frank Oz were doing AMAZING things with puppets and make up effects. I wish you were still with us, Jim.

31
Breakdown 1997,  R)
Breakdown
This, in my opinion, is Kurt Russell's finest performance. I was always used to seeing him play a tough guy in his movies so this was a big surprise for me to see him as an average Johnny Lunch Bucket. Why Russell isn't in Hollywood's upper echelon is beyond me.
32
Quest for Fire 1982,  R)
Quest for Fire
Skillfully directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, this film shows us what life may have been like for our primitive ancestors.
33
Highlander 1986,  R)

Yet another big fav! Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery are awesome here, and Clancy Brown's "Kurgan" has to be the coolest villain next to Darth Vader!

Awesome film about the U.K.'s drug infested underbelly. Just be sure and watch this with the subtitles on, as those cockneyed Brit accents can be difficult to understand at times.

Appurushîdo (Appleseed)
Based on Masamune Shirow's comics, this movie is basically an amalgamation of all of his stories with a few new twists. Beautifully animated. Track down and read the comics if you can.
43
Appurushîdo (Appleseed) 1988,  Unrated)
Appurushîdo (Appleseed)
The original '89 version with English subtitles. In the distant future, our heros', Deunan Knute and her cyborg pal Briareos Hecantochires, struggle to survive (and to understand) the politics and nuances of the people of the utopian city state "Olympus". Still holds up pretty well today.

Downfall (Der Untergang)
I'm watching this right now, as I write this, for the umpteenth time. Finally, Hitler's last days as depicted from the Germans point of view. Bruno Ganz is a dead ringer for Der Fuhrer. Don't miss it.
