Love it! Love it! Just love it! Twins separated at birth by tragic circumstances: One is raised by his real parents and becomes a renowned musician and a conductor. The other was found by a drunk woman and turned to be a street-wise mechanic and a kung fu fighter. The notion of "psychic links" is taken to the extreme in this film and I laugh my ass off every time I see it!
Not easy to understand, but this is a surrealistic jewel! We're talking about a joke on the Hollywood machine, the media, even on The Monkees themselves. The film is a pandemonium of intertwined stories without ending: these are the fantasies of Hollywood and the Monkees Fans for The Monkees. Unfortunately, our four main characters are imprisoned in them!
One of the Best fantasy films ever!
Even though it is an adaptation of the first half of Michael Ende's book (highly recommended), this film is one that invites you to see it again and again.
One scene that's way off the original book is when Bastian wishes to bring the luckdragon to the Real World in the end. Still, I enjoyed the scene! It was pretty funny! The problem with it is that No one can bring a fantasy character to the real world in the flesh. The door to the Real World for Fantasians is closed.
Not as good as the first movie, but Jonathan Brandis's acting was great!! And the soundtrack is wonderful! The adaptation from the second half of the book was inferior, though. Bastian's loss of memory is a natural ocurrence in Fantasia for a human: the lesson of the book is that we cannot live without imagination, but we cannot live inside a dream world forever either. If we live constantly in a fantasy, we lose ourselves. There's no machine that robs memories in the book. The more Bastian makes wishes while staying in Fantasia, the more of himself he loses. The idea of the machine was too high-tech here. And what about wishing for spray paint? What the h*ll was that about???
A must- see for me year after year! The " magic" might be special effects, but the morals taught by the character of Lirio are what white witches hold on to.
This one showed me Jackie was not only a stuntman, but an accomplished actor! The best version is the Chinese DVD with English subtittles. Based on a true story about a kidnapping. Jackie won Best Actor in China for this one...And of course, the stunts are there too!
Good adaptation of the book. It could have been even better adapted, though. Still ,I understand why Ron Howard omitted Sophie's brother. The survival of only One Merovingian makes the mission of maintaining the Sangreal even more important. I loved it!
Good movie! I love Anita Mui's acting! It felt more like an 80's movie, though. Still, I love Jackie Chan's work here: his acting was good and his stunts were sharp!
