1
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The middle child in a very gifted family, and IMO, the best one of the three (except for what was done to Faramir's character).
2
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Imagine for a moment how truly God-awful a film adaptation of LOTR could have been. Now, get on your unworthy knees and thank Peter Jackson for getting it right! Die-hard fans will want to spring for the extended edition.
3
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Alas, the final chapter... and an excellent one at that. Andy Serkis should have been nominated for an Oscar for these films.
4
The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece; it deserves all the rave reviews it's gotten over the years. Even 35 years after its release, it still has the power to shock and amaze you with its plot and violence.
5
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 2007,  R)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
First-rate musical thriller. Johnny Depp truly excels in the film adaptation of my favorite stage musical. The supporting cast and Tim Burton's directing, along with Sondheim's score, really make this film shine.
6
Phantom Of The Opera 1925,  Unrated)
Phantom Of The Opera
Despite all the remakes and reimaginings of Gaston Leroux's masterpiece, this one is still my favourite of the film versions.
7
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
My favorite episode of the Star Wars saga. It has the perfect mixture of special effects, a brilliantly dark story, and a fantastic score by John Williams.
8
Chicago 2002,  PG-13)
Chicago
The film that made me fall back in love with Hollywood musicals. Catherine Zeta-Jones is utterly spectacular, and the other principals also gave very good performances. The film is quite different from the stage show, but I loved it anyway.
9
Batman Begins 2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
At last, a "Batman" film worthy of the legend. Superbly directed by Chris Nolan, with a second one coming soon, it is among the greatest "superhero" films ever made.
