The Matrix 1999, R)
A must see for sci-fi/action fans! Once in a very long time a film comes along that raises the bar for all others to follow. The Matrix is such a film. Utilizing never-before-seen visual cinematic techniques such as "Bullet time" it allows the story to unfold in new ways. The story is multi-faceted and multi-dimensional requiring the viewer to think which is uncommon among sci-fi/action films. It's brilliant story concept incorporates various philosophies and concepts which are just as interestingly done as the mind-blowing visuals and special FX. This film can be understood on it's own but is best understood as part of the The Matrix trilogy. One of my most respected films and one of my top 7 absolute favourite movies of all time. |

A must see for sci-fi/action fans! This film picks up where The Matrix left off. The story unfolds in more and more intriguing directions and the special FX are punched up beyond the original Matrix film taking "Bullet time" to a whole new level. This film is not just a visual and special FX masterpiece but also a stylish action-packed philosophical rollercoaster that will make you ponder it's meanings long after the credits have rolled. Best understood as part of The Matrix trilogy. One of my most respected films and one of my top 7 absolute favourite movies of all time. |

The Matrix Revolutions 2003, R)
A must see for sci-fi/action fans! Picking up where The Matrix Reloaded left off this film delves deeper and deeper into the multi-faceted and multi-dimensional storyline incorporating various meanings and philosophical concepts to add great depth to the story. It will not tie up every storyline thread in a bow and serve it to you on a platter like most movies, it will instead inspire you to find your own meanings and conclusions to the concepts it portrays. A bold and fairly unique storytelling methodology. This film also features even more incredible special FX continually raising it's own bar again and again. Visually striking, philosophically deep, pulse-pounding, stylish and memorable. Absolutely fantasically written, directed and realized by the Wachowski brothers. Best understood as part of The Matrix Trilogy. One of my most respected films and one of my top 7 absolute favourite movies of all time. |

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003, PG-13)
A must see! The final chapter in the grand trilogy based on the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien takes the story to the highest level in every regard. Winner of 11 Academy Awards and featuring one of the longest, most visually and technically complex and detailed epic battle sequences ever to be put into a film, it reintegrates the various threads of the grand story in sheer epic fashion. By this point you will know the characters so well you will feel for them deeply, connecting you deeper with the story. They say J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy book is the second most read book in the world after The Bible, so the masterpiece of a story was there from the beginning. Peter Jackson took that complex story and made it into an absolutely genius part of cinematic history from concept to visualization to realization. J.R.R. Tolkien's story deserved no less. As the third part of the trilogy, it is best when the other two films are seen as well. One of my most respected films and one of my top 7 absolute favourite movies of all time. |

Exorcist - The Beginning 2004, R)
A haunting prequel to the best horror film of all time - The Exorcist. This film recounts the life of Father Lankaster Merrin before those famous events in The Exorcist. It tries very hard to follow in it's footsteps to provide a similar shock-factor and it very much succeeds. This film is intensely creepy and very gory. Highly recommended for horror fans! |
