Before Facebook came along, people actually talked face to face and had real moments. This is a film that takes place before Facebook came along.
This was my first expierience in a Terence Davies film. A part of me wished I had viewed his previous films before entering this one. I am sure to come to love this even more once I understand fully how this director works. He seems to have created his own style here in some ways, and does an excellent job at it. The film felt very involved and at times maybe too involved in it's characters. Upon multiple views, I will come to understand some of the things about this movie. It feels like the pieces of the puzzle are out of order and by the last frame we feel like we must see it again in order to piece it all together.
To call this just a Drama Romance is to say it ranks with those types. This is a film that redefines the genre and comes out with something unique. I have some minor compliants, but those I will save for converations with ones who have seen the film already. It's easy to say this is a masterpiece, and in time will become a classic in some ways.
Rachel Weisz also totally owns here as Hester Collyer, who she plays flawlessly. Take note.

"Wants some more chips?" *sobbing* "YES!"
It's got more soul to it than what we get at first glance with it's characters that seem at first like a characiture of themselves, but by the end, who would actually want to revisit this. The target audience is who. It has something to say, but ones who have seen this type before are in for nothing new. It does have it's amusing and funny elements at times, though.
