My Favorite Movies

  thmpsnkids's Rating My Rating
1
Casablanca 1942,  PG)
Casablanca
Classic film of love and sacrifice during a time of war. Humphrey Bogart and Ingid Bergman are tremendous.
2
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) 1997,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella)
A unique film cut in half with a comedy up front and a tragedy at the end. Roberto Benigni is perfect as the father and husband who will sacrifice all for his family. See it in the original Italian with subtitles - you need to hear Benigni saying the lines, not an English dubber.
3
Shadow of a Doubt 1943,  PG)
Shadow of a Doubt
Demonstrates the horror of seeing someone you love and admire slowly emerge as evil. My favorite Hitchcock film (and I love most of them!).
4
It Happened One Night 1934,  Unrated)
It Happened One Night
One of the best comedies ever made. The original screwball comedy. Clark Gable is fabulous as the cynical reporter and Claudette Colbert is perfect as the Paris Hilton of her day. Stay up late and watch this real classic. Winner of the Grand Slam of Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay).

Romeo and Juliet
The best version of Shakespeare's tragic love story.
8
A Letter to Three Wives 1949,  Unrated)
A Letter to Three Wives
As three women board a boat for an afternoon of volunteer work, they are given a letter stating a "friend" of theirs has run off with one of their husbands. Each woman thinks back on their lives and wonders if it could be hers. Great acting.
9
The Trouble with Angels 1966,  PG)
The Trouble with Angels
Unlike teen films of today, the Trouble with Angels is a mutli-dimensional film. Yes, it's a comedy about girls at boarding school, but it is also a true coming of age story with heartbreak and issues related to a blossoming faith. None of the characters in this film are cliche, but are real three-dimensional human beings. Rosalind Russell and Haley Mills are fabulous. PS. Don't bother to see the sequel - it's really bad and doesn't star the original cast.

Little Miss Sunshine 2006,  R)

14
Dial M for Murder 1954,  PG)
Dial M for Murder
Did Grace Kelly really intend to murder the man she killed, or is she being framed by a jealous husband? One of Hitchcocks best.
15
Citizen Kane 1941,  PG)
Citizen Kane
Considered the finest film ever made. Students of film will easily see why. So many of the camera angles, etc were first used in this film and then copied in film after film. Great story said to be based on Randolph Hearst. I think it is actually a foreshadowing of Mr. Murdoch!
16
The Pianist 2002,  R)

Sean Connery as a very sexy Arab Sheik. Loved it!
32
