The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
People either understand this film or they don't. Many people I have asked don't get it so they dismiss it. Which is a real shame because it really is a masterpeice of a science fiction movie!
Keanu may not be the greatest actor but he really suits the part of Neo and makes the character his own. Laurence makes a brillinat supporting actor and is truly believable.
Looking beyond the amazing special effects and action sequences there is a really strong & indepth storyline...and if the haters would give it half a chance it makes sense in the end.
I really cannot fault this film on any level. One of, or if not the best science fiction movie ever made!
2
Girl, Interrupted 1999,  R)
Girl, Interrupted
Extremely absorbing drama very similiar to 'One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest', but in an all female institute. Angelina is astounding in this, infact she steals each and every scene she is in with Winona!
It is refreshing to watch a mostly all female film with so many well established female actresses cast together. Whoopie is absolutely believable as the caring Nurse. Brittany Murphy plays her tragic character extremely well. Infact all the people cast suit their roles so much you can actually believe you are looking into the daily life of a psychiatric hospital...Five well earned stars!!
3
Minority Report 2002,  PG-13)
Minority Report
Set in a future where a new crime tackling initiative has been set up. The Pre Crime unit tackle a crime before it has even taken place. Police chief John Anderton (Tom Cruise) finds himself trying to avoid being captured for a crime he is supposed to commit.
This film has some amazing special effects and a really intriguing storyline. The gadgets and technology is mind boggling. There is also a great deal of tension throughout. I could watch this movie 1000 times and never tire of it.
Spielburg made a good job of this movie and made it believable, much in the same way The Matrix is.
They really need to make more science fiction films like this.
4

The Butterfly Effect
Not for everyone and the time shifting may confuse some. But if you enjoyed 'Frequency' you'll like this one
9
Signs 2002,  PG-13)
Signs
Signs has some minor plot holes, especially regarding the aliens. But if you can overlook this is one treat of a movie.
Director Shyamalan prefers to concentrate more on the character direction and relationships and the impending alien invasion makes for a background story.
This is what makes the film work so well. Acting is superb Mel and Joaquin work well as brothers. The children actors playing Mel's kids are brilliant, esepecially the little girl (Abigail Breslin). Her funny one liners are right on cue and the crying scene was so believable, seeing as she is so young as well.
Signs has no big action sequences but it does have a strong and tense storyline. It plays like a old B movie hitchcock style but thats what makes it so gripping. The terror comes from not knowing unlike most horror/ thriller films. Slamming doors and banging in the dark is far more scarier than seeing a monster in my opinion....Great film, big thumbs up!
10

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)

30
The Sixth Sense 1999,  PG-13)
The Sixth Sense
Very intense psychological ghost thriller from the master of film twists, M. Night Shyamalan. Haley Joel Osment's amazing acting ability is what makes this movie. Have never really rated Bruce Willis's acting, but he stepped it up a notch for this one. This is my favourite film by Shyamalan, closely followed by 'signs'

42

43
Batman Begins 2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins

44
Superman 1978,  PG)
Superman
My all time favourite superhero. Christopher Reeves will always represent Superman to me.
A family adventure really does not get much better than this!
45
Night at the Museum 2006,  PG)
Night at the Museum
I was not expecting big things from this movie, but was pleasantly surprised by this film. Its storyline is simple and uncomplicated but thats what makes it so enjoyable. A storyline does not have to be complicated to work. Night At The Museum reminds me of the classic 80's/early 90's family films..Lots of fun and not taking itself too seriously. The comedy moments are just enough and the CGI is great...Grab the popcorn and sit down with the kids and enjoy!!
46
Horror 2002,  R)
