Stephanie's Favorite Movies
My favorite movie of all time. This movie nails it on all cylinders. Probably the tightest written action time-travel sci-fi story of all time. But what really always gets me is this: the real main character and hero of this movie is Sarah Connor. Sarah Connor starts out the movie as an extremely relatable girl. She has a crap job, her date stands her up, and then some creepy guy starts following her, than, suddenly a cyborg from the future shows up trying to kill her since she's the mother of the future leader of humanity and a hot dude from the future shows up to protect her. Sarah's character is not a "type" something I constantly preach is the true goal movies with women need to be. She is the one who's journey this movie really is and her arc from beginning to end is the most well defined. And the ending was exceptionally ballsy for its day. There are so many things in this movie that elevate it from what it appeared to be: a typical cheesy b action movie. The Tech Noir action sequence may seem same old to people nowadays but in it's day- fresh and exceptionally original. This movie really changed the way people shot action sequences. Cameron brilliantly took a shoot out scene and didn't make it about the shoot-out- it was about Sarah, Kyle, and the Terminator. This movie also gives us an ending. One of my biggest pet peeves in b-movies (especially action ones) are where they don't have an ending, they just... end. The climax is over and credits roll. The codex at the end alone makes this movie more than just a little action movie. It's what made the movie something special.
Beautiful. Achingly beautiful. All elements of this movie come together and present a wonderful celebration of life and all the little simple great things about it.
