The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
For many, simply the best part of this trilogy of films. This is the opening chapter, introducing the characters and the story and gently reeling us in and adoring the story and scenery.

At the end leaving us both satisfied and wanting more.

This Is Spinal Tap
One of the very best mockumentary films EVER (and no, thats not a spelling mistake) It is a comedy documentary spoof that's so realistic it had music fan friends of mine seething ast the time but they've since realised that it is a worthwhile watch - better on a big screen with a 5.1 surround sound setup.

Marti DiBergi (AKA Rob Reiner, a talented film maker in his own right) decides to profile a british rock bohemoth, and featuring timeless tunes and great humour - they recently reappeared at Live8 to great applause, proving they're still going strong...

Shrek 2001,  PG)
Shrek
Best cartoon not made by or from house of the mouse (pixar notwithstanding) for a long time. But that was before the sequel...

Kate & Leopold 2001,  PG-13)
Kate & Leopold
I loved this film, and that's a rare occurrence, don't generally do these kinds of film. This was sweet and endearing.
Great closing song that was also nominated for an Oscar, and that helped sell it to me.
(I saw it with my girlfriend at the time, who was very confused by the end of the film)

2010: The Year We Make Contact 1984,  PG)
2010: The Year We Make Contact
To understand and appreciate this sequel (one that is otherwise immune from "law of dimishing returns" because its based on really strong source material, and a great director who also wrote the screenplay) Under-rated ofr sure and definately worth a look in. The previous film to this has been considered by many to be one of the best and certainly one of the most influential Sci-fi films of all time, with some rather surprising endorsements, you cant go too badly wrong by following it up with reading the novels.
