I was expecting almost non-stop laughs and they didn't come as often as I thought, but what's there is funny and the dramatic moments are gripping and emotional. Flawless movie, funny and sweet with excellent performances.
I bumped this up to 5 stars because it captures that "last day of school" feeling so well that when I watch it I get excited as if it's my last day of school too. Completely enjoyable with a lot of awesome classic rock songs on the soundtrack.
Some movies are just okay and some are really cool, but it's rare when a movie really blows your mind. Consider my mind blown. Consider my mind blown. ...Sorry, that was my time machine. :)
When I first went to see this, I didn't think I would be that interested. Boy was I wrong. It drew me in and had me loving every minute of it. In fact I think I'll switch it from 4 stars to 5...
A very cool idea, well executed and tons of fun. I think the most important thing we're meant to take from it (even though no one will) is that we can achieve more by working with others rather than against them.
Classic Tarantino, reinventing a genre while paying tribute to it. Brad Pitt may be the advertised lead but it felt like no one dominated the movie in terms of screen time. As for acting I think Pitt seemed too exaggerated, like someone doing an impression of a southern accent rather than someone who actually has one. The real standout performances go to Christoph Waltz as a slimy, tension-increasing Nazi and Diane Kruger as a German actress with a hidden agenda.
What a blast I had watching this! Has some Matrix, eXistenZ, and even a bit of Shutter Island in it, but at the same time it is its own original masterpiece with an intelligent script, mindblowing visuals, and a quality cast. Bonus points for being released on my birthday!
This is probably the quietest crime drama I've ever seen - the dialogue is somewhat sparse and there is absolutely no music. However it all works perfectly because when there's no music it's easier to forget that you're watching a movie, and the dialogue (especially by Bardem and Jones) is often profound and fascinating.
Probably overlooked a lot due to being foreign, but I can easily say this is the best adaptation of Alice in Wonderland I've ever seen. Whereas Tim Burton tried to apply logic and morals to a story void of both because he simply "wasn't interested in the original source material", Svankmajer is a director who actually likes and understands Carroll's classic. This movie preserves all of the nonsense and the creepy, sinister undertones while somehow managing to tell the story in a unique and fresh way. Even though everyone knows the story well by now because there are tons of adaptations out there, I found myself completely entertained and captivated, and was constantly smiling and chuckling at the strange charm of this movie.
Watching this a second time, I realized it's even more brilliant than I originally thought. There's so much yet it doesn't feel overstuffed, it really goes into every possible situation regarding this new technology so that we get the full scope of the philosophical and moral implications of it. On another level it also mirrors the filmmaking process (namely editing and screening) and the old objective vs. subjective debate. Some strong performances by the main actors too, although I have to say that most of the minor actors were sub-par. Watching this makes me feel a litle depressed because it reminds you of your own mortality and shameful deeds, but it's definitely worth watching.
Wonderful film, sometimes almost painful to watch because this poor guy can't catch a break, but I guarantee you'll be rooting for him the whole time. Great performances too, even Will Smith's son was excellent.
Cute movie. It borrows a couple of things from Terminator, but I like to think this movie is what Terminator would be like had it been a romantic comedy instead of an action blockbuster.
