1
Rocky Balboa 2006,  PG)
Rocky Balboa
Just as moving as Rocky. If not more so.
2
Rocky 1976,  PG)
Rocky
One of my favorites. Writing, acting, story....both uplifting and depressing, which is hard to do.
3
Memento 2000,  R)
Memento
I know this movie can be confusing to some due to the fact that it's shown in reverse order, but I didn't have any problems following it, and I rather enjoyed the unique perspective. Guy Pearce is marvelous as the man you love to love, then love to hate. But you can't help but still love him.
4
Narc 2002,  R)
Narc
A very gritty crime drama. Ray Liotta is one of my favorite actors, and I definitely wasn't disappointed in his acting in this film. Jason Patric is also stellar.
5

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The beginning of greatness.

8
The Patriot 2000,  R)
The Patriot
Gibson sure does know how to tell a story.
9
Pleasantville 1998,  PG-13)
Pleasantville
This is a wonderful story. The characters are engaging, funny, and realistic. Toby Maguire and Reese Witherspoon are superb, but Jeff Daniels, William H. Macy, and Joan Allen all provide solid performances, as well. One of my all-time favorites.
10
Cop Land 1997,  R)
Cop Land
I can't say enough good things about this movie. The villains are sleazy enough to make you want to kill them, and Stallone does a superb job, once again, playing the underdog. The man you feel bad for, but also want to smack around....until he wises up at the end and kicks some major ass.
11
What Dreams May Come 1998,  PG-13)
What Dreams May Come
This is one of those movies that you'll either love or hate. It's aesthetically pleasing to the eye and makes you think about life, death, and all the things in-between. It shares an important perspective on dying and whether or not it is our own right to decide when to go. The casting is wonderful, the acting wonderful, the writing human, and the plot is thought-provoking.
12
Buffalo 66 1998,  R)
Buffalo 66
This movie has all the awkwardness one would expect. Which is a good thing. Christina Ricci is lovable as the kidnap victim-turned groupie, and Vincent Gallo is wonderful as the man filled with anger who eventually learns to just let shit go.
13
Shine 1996,  PG-13)
Shine
Geoffrey Rush won an Oscar for his role as David Helfgott, a musical progeny who suffers a severe breakdown at a young age. It's moving and very much worth your time.

I've followed Christian Bale's career since I was a kid and saw him in Newsies. I think his role as Trevor Reznik is the most poignant one I've seen so far. He's a character actor through-and-through, and no one can deny it.
