My Favorite Movies

My loves and hates tend to shift over time, so I've tried to list stuff that I've liked for a while, not just a few months. Anyways. I make no claim to any of these movies being veritable classics or stretching the boundaries of cinema, but they're movies I like. A lot. (Chances are I've missed something or put something on that doesn't qualify as much as I originally thought it might. Also: These movies aren't really in any ranking, especially.)

The Truman Show 1998,  PG)
The Truman Show
Wow, have I still not written this up yet? I ought to watch it again.
2
O Brother, Where Art Thou? 2000,  PG-13)
3
The Fugitive 1993,  PG-13)
4
On the Waterfront 1954,  Unrated)
5
Spider-Man 2 2004,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 2
Still the best superhero movie ever made. Not an off-key note in the work. The only problem with this movie is that it leaves me both desperate for Spider-man 3 and yet terrified they'll stumble over the ridiculously high bar they set with this movie. This movie is much better than it has any right to be.
6
Hotel Rwanda 2004,  PG-13)
Hotel Rwanda
You have no reason for not watching this movie. It is simply one of the best movies of the past few years. It is disturbing, and thought provoking, a shot in the head of our Western complacency.
7
Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan 1982,  PG)
8
Napoleon Dynamite 2004,  PG)
Napoleon Dynamite
This movie gets a lot of flack and I think that's fair. I think, to a certain extent, perhaps more than normally, your enjoyment of this movie depends on your life experience. I probably like this movie too much for my own good, too much to really step back from it and be critical in the way that I need to. Still, I can't help but like it. It may be dumb, but at least it makes an effort be be a different kind of dumb than all the other dumb movies.
