Thought provoking, remind me of theories on social influence, group dynamics, and decision making. No special effect, no over dramatized shot, and ... no color (it's a black and white movie, :) Just an excellent script and the excellent performance for all 12 actors.
A very funny movie, though it's from Hitchcock. It has an interesting theme: Will you marry me, "again"? Although it's a comedy, it does show the funny and lovely part of a love relationship between two persons high on face concern.
I totally agree with one of my friend's comment. It's actually a love story, and a very touching one. ^_^
I merely expected a funny movie when going to watch it. I didn't even know that the white robot is a "female" before watching the movie. However, the movie turned out to be much much better than I expected. The funny scenes made me laugh a lot, but I was also touched by the love story part.
Well, it's a love story between two robots. However, I saw the traces of the interesting elements that we usually found in human love stories. I think this is why the story is so touching.
Moreover, it is an excellent demonstration of "showing" the story instead of "telling" the story ... a skill the people at Pixar are very good at.
The movie is excellent. There are a few plot holes. Nevertheless, it maybe the best movie I watched so far in 2008.
Run Papa Run is excellent. I cried while watching this movie. No, this movie doesn't try to say that gangsters can also be good. Instead, it tells the story of Tian En, who went the wrong path and finds it really really hard to get away. Nevertheless, there are people who love him, whatever he did. In this sense, it's like God. Justice goes hand in hand with mercy. No, it's not a "but." Justice, mercy, forgiveness ... all out of love. He still needs to bear the consequences for what he did ... but he is still loved.
Tian En said in the movie, "it took one minute to enter the Jiang Hu (the crime world), and took the whole life's time to get away." Think thrice. Harm can't be undone easily.
I like Sylvia Chang's movies because she is really good at telling a story by film editing, subtle details, and props. I like her sentimental way to tell a story.
Yes, there are a lot of voice-overs in Run Papa Run. However, the VOs are used not because the director doesn't know how to tell a story visually. Instead, the VOs fit the characters of Tian En very well ... they become part of the story.
