Poignantly beautiful and achingly sad... mainly because I know why it is just not enough. A story so full it took me until the end credits to realize there were only 2 actors in the film.
Sean, your comments are genius. I can't think of anything more to add.
Except... FOTR has the most beautiful cinematography of the three movies. And my chance to be Gandalf while we're listening to the soundtrack only increases my love of this movie.
TT seemed so lonely without one of my excessively long comments. Months before I saw this, I had a very vivid picture of the towers due to Gwen's obsession with Helm's Deep.
"Would you like some... stew and by the way I LOVE YOU VIGGO." "aaashaIASFASfjlasj faksl;fjaiEGggg." "What? Viggo, I... I don't understand... I'm trying to tell you that I happen to be PASSIONATELY IN LOVE WITH YOU even though I'm being so subtle about it..." "Asssieoaeo jda;dfie..." "Viggo - are you... are you speaking Elvish?? Viggo, that's not even a real language... Viggo, I'm not the enemy, put away your sword I LOVE YOU!!!!!!"
If Viggo would only stay sweaty and not tie his hair back in the girly velvet ribbon at the end, this movie simply could NOT get any better. Tricksy little hobbitses... and tricksy little Viggo, thinking he can talk to horses in Elvish. "My lady!"
I actually cannot remember the last time I have laughed so hard during a film, yet it moved me to tears as well. Do yourself a favour: go and support this film.
Y a l'Ontario dans le cul aussi!
but p.s. I do not support the shoot-em-up trailor AT ALL. I guess if it encourages brainless, subtitlephobes to actually go out and see a decent movie once and a while, then it's worth it, but maybe we shouldn't be wasting good films on culturephobes in the first place.
This was brilliantly filmed and casted. It is full of quick, childlike regard for beauty and surprise, as well as pain. My only note of advice? Watch with a Russian/Ukrainian: apparently the subtitles are heavily censored, and trust me, you don't want to miss what they're really saying. Heh heh heh
I just love this movie. Really. I can't say that much more about it. It's my comfort movie that I watch, in bed, when I'm feeling sad. "The caviar is a garnish!!" "Daisies are the friendliest flowers. Don't you think they're just the friendliest flowers?" "I just want to be your friend."
Oh my dear goodness. Possibly the most HILARIOUS romcom I have and will ever see. "Your mother is terrifying... I thought she was going to kill me and feed me to the poor." "Billy - I love you."
Ooo, yeah. Tres good, indeed. It's one of those movies that is borderline mind-blowing. You can't just classify it as a simple romcom - it's edging into that other category.
As I told Eric - this movie is like a multitude of onions, each with its own layers to be peeled away. Really, it explores quite profound notions. (But in all honesty, I would watch it just for the swing scene. Sigh)
