One of the finest! Withnail and Marwood are hilareous as two out-of-work actors seeking time out in glorious Penrith. As quoteable as they come! A must-see British gem.
Brilliant! One of my all-time favourites. A sadly misunderstood film in that it "could be funnier". Bursting with subtle humour, ridiculous scenarios and the portrayal of Kevin's heros is brilliant. He soon finds out they're not as great as he thought, especially Robin Hood! David Warner is great as the Evil Genious. Lasers and computers are the way forward in creation, not slugs and parrots!! I could write an essay on this awesome film. I even love George Harrison's "Dream Away" from his album "Gone Troppo" at the end. It's proudly on my iPod :o)
The ultimate Saturday 5pm popcorn film! Solid, timeless, fantastic performances - even from 'Bruce' the fake shark. The final scenes on the Orca are class. This film should NEVER EVER be re-made!!
Very underrated film about public schoolboy rebellion. Brilliant acting from everyone involved. Has some surrealism that makes it even more of a truly great film. McDowell kicks off his career with perfection!
The finest depiction of Rome ever made! Caligula "Little Boots" Caesar is brilliantly acted by one of my favourite actors, the fine Malcolm McDowell. Love the production of this film. Have the uncut version and even the soundtrack - quite good! It's good to finally see I'm not the only one who likes it :o)
Brilliant! Oh what a funny film this is! Very stylish in every way. Cartoony events takes away from it coming across too realistically brutal therefore easier to stomach. Ichi is a troubled soul, bless him! Loved it.
A town cursed by spirals, can you believe it? Another cartoony Manga adaptation that's pure psychadelic way-out 'horror'. The lad who kept jumping out on the object of his affections was hilareous, as was the accompanying music to the scene where the daughter eats melon with her dad. Cool film.
Some will find this a very slow film. It is and that is what makes it so powerfull and surprising. A seemingly romantic tale that builds up slowly into an awesome ending! Japanese brilliance.
I have read the brilliant book and seen the pretty good film adaptation (remember, there's only so much the film censors will allow!) - well acted by Christian Bale, such a smoothie.
What a funny, funny story! The joke is on the characters; so obsessive, existing in both reality and fantasy and generally over-the-top. "Daaahling!" Like Del Boy tried to alike himself to be in 'Only Fools and Horses', they were 80s yuppies with their braces and Filofaxes. I've read about this story being 'disturbing' but to me, I've interpreted it as black humour and a p***take of folk of that generation/lifestyle. I'm interested to know if anyone else saw it as that?
It has become one of my favourite books and films in my collection.
"I have to return some videotapes" Ha ha ha!!!!
Western audiences who enjoy blatance in horror films will NOT enjoy this. Slow burning, atmospheric, very well acted film that ultimately gets under your skin. No special effects or big jumps, just simple eeriness and that's why it is such a great film. Unplug that telly ;op
Very sad "Carrie"-like prequel to 'Ringu'. A sweet girl terrified of her own powers. This tells her tragic tale and got my eyes watering! The scene where she merges with her twin and becomes the evil Sadako is the creepiest thing I've seen. And I've seen it all! That noise & her movements, argh!
Very nasty yet quite amusing film! Violent, yes, but worse has been done since so it's not as shocking as it was when it came out. McDowell is at his finest here as a cocky, young rebel. A right buggar! Everything about this film is craftmanship and it's funny how we end up feeling sorry for Alex. Give that kid an Oscar and an ASBO!
