My Favorite Movies

1
Run Lola Run (Lola rennt) 1998,  R)
Run Lola Run (Lola rennt)
Run Lola Run is one of my favorite foreign films. The fast-paced action, catchy music, and simple tale about reincarnation make this movie an excellent introduction to international works.
2
The Big Sleep 1946,  PG)
The Big Sleep
This is Bogart at his finest. Although The Big Sleep suffers from significant edits when compared to the outstanding novel by Raymond Chandler, it remains as a classic example of the Film Noir genre. The banter between Bogart and Bacall is unparalleled. Rent it today... and then read the book!
3
The Fifth Element 1997,  PG-13)
The Fifth Element
This under-appreciated movie, complete with over-the-top action and an equally outrageous Chris Tucker, is an example of what the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre has lost. Watch The Fifth Element and let the ever-cocky Bruce Willis and the stunningly beautiful Milla Jovovich take you on an adventure to Fhloston Paradise in an effort to retrieve the elemental stones from a blue diva, outwit Zorg, and save Earth from a Great Evil.
4
The Transformers - The Movie 1986,  PG)
The Transformers - The Movie
Forget about the recent live-action Transformer movies which rely on incredible CGI and ridiculous action. The original "Transformers - The Movie" is superior. In an unprecedented move for a "kid's movie", Hasbro slaughters all of the lead characters from the animated series during the opening sequence. This results in a struggle among the Autobots as a reluctant leader must take Optimus Prime's place and unite the team in an effort to defeat the evil Unicron.
5
Casablanca 1942,  PG)
Casablanca
Before movies could rely on spectacular stunts and CGI special effects, they had to make due with character development and dialog. Casablanca remains as one of the greatest movies of all time. Bogart is at the top of his game as the warm-hearted cafe owner whose cold exterior won't allow anyone to get too close. Love, corruption, and violence are all portrayed in a manner that modern Hollywood executives would exploit. This is a movie I can watch again and again.
6
The Man Who Would Be King 1975,  PG)
The Man Who Would Be King
This is Rudyard Kipling's tale about two Freemasons who use their knowledge of the "craft" to rule over a small village in Afghanistan. Connery and Caine are excellent in the lead roles as Masonic adventurers. This movie is a must for any Freemason.
