Rose's Favorite Movies
Not that I'm joining the bandwagon or anything but I must say that this film absolutely lived up to all the hype it created prior to its release. I've seen all the Batman movies that have been made (well, only those beginning from the one which starred Michael Keaton) and I do admit that I have enjoyed watching each one of them. this recent installment would probably be the most chaotic and disturbing of them all, but it might also be the most heart-wrenching. The movie started great, viewers get to see what atrocities the Joker is capable of, but I thought the next few minutes were a bit dragging. But all that can be forgiven since the rest of the movie was full of twists and turns that you would feel as if the Joker is playing one of his jokes on you. Christian Bale, IMO, takes the place of Michael Keaton for being the best actor who played the caped crusader (yup, Keaton was my favorite Batman, lol). Bale's performance was very subtle, yet gripping and strong. Heath Ledger, indeed, gave the performance of his life on this film. His role on Brokeback Mountain may have been difficult, but his portrayal of the Joker is no doubt the best I've seen him in. I would not say that he did better than Jack Nicholson since I think they played the role differently. Nicholson was the more the playful, whimsical type, while Ledger was a lot darker, more like vengeful and uncaring. Aaron Eckhart was a big surprise for me. I didn't think he can make that transition from a good guy to villain but he was just as convincing. The rest of the cast, returnees such as Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine provided a strong support cast that made the movie even more brilliant. Now will there be a next one? Unlike the end of Batman Begins, there was a tell-tale sign of a sequel. As for this one...I really didn't see any or I might have just missed it therefore, gives me a good reason to go back to the cinema and watch it again. Which I certainly be most happy to do. :D
If I had seen this last year, I would have said it was the best movie of 2008. Technically, it was released in 2008 so I guess it may be the best movie I've seen in 2008. Lol. Some would probably say this movie is overrated, with Cate Blanchett and of course Brad Pitt as the leads and David Fincher directing it but I beg to disagree. All I can say is that its one movie that is so different from the ones I had seen - even if some say that it is the new Forrest Gump. The script may have been a bit mediocre for such a wonderfully-written and directed story but I wouldn't have preferred it any other way. It thought it was going to be a heavy drama but there were just enough scenes that would make you laugh. Watching the film is a great journey so go see it. I'm even considering buying a dvd copy.
