The Proposal

The Proposal is a typical romantic comedy. That's it. There's not much else to say about it. Everything in the film has been done before. There's nothing original about it. Does it please the masses? Certainly. Is it fun? I guess so. I can't say I really enjoyed it, but I didn't dislike it either. It just kept my mind stupidly occupied for a couple hours.
Marvel's The Avengers

It's far from bad, but there's nothing special about this film. Aside from the amped-up grandiosity one would expect from a $220 million action film, The Avengers is nothing more than a run-of-the-mill superhero film.

Few who have seen this film can deny its excellence. This is film at its very best. Absolutely, positively, one of the very best films ever made. I can't recommend it highly enough. Yes, it is *that* good.
American Beauty

I don't think the film's vision could have been more fully realized. All of the film's lofty objectives are achieved, and then some. Though it initially feels like no more than a superficial satire on middle-class suburbia -- though it is a satire in many ways -- there's so much more to it. Few films so gracefully give us so much to think about, all while captivating us each and every wonderful second of its remarkable tale.
