My Favorite Movies

1
Big Trouble in Little China 1986,  PG-13)
Big Trouble in Little China
BTILC is my all-time favorite movie! I've seen it well over 100 times and never get tired of it. Being a huge Carpenter fan, I was drawn to this fim from GO. The snappy dialogue and speedy pace keeps you glued to the screen from beginning to end. This is by far Carpenter's best.
2
The 'Burbs 1989,  PG)
The 'Burbs
My favorite Tom Hanks movie and probably one of my top 3 favorite films ever. Its funny, odd and quirky. Bruce Dern is hilarious, rounding off a great cast. If you haven't seen this movie, you're missing out!!!
3
Some Kind of Wonderful 1987,  PG-13)
Some Kind of Wonderful
John Hughes classic, one of my favorites to say the least. A romantic teen comedy about an unlikely love triangle. Hughes films always seem to hit home with me, sparking memories of my own youth. Early work by some great actors, and an awesome soundtrack!
4
Conan the Barbarian 1982,  R)
Conan the Barbarian
I grew up with Conan. From the paperback novels to every comic and magazine ever published. I can honestly say that if one actor was born to play that role, it was Arnold. This was a fantastic fantasy adventure that tells of Conan's origin and his first love. Absolutely wonderful soundtrack by Basil Poledouris. This movie breathed life into the words I had been reading for many years prior.
5
Streets of Fire 1984,  PG)
Streets of Fire
Walter Hill was an amazing director, and Streets of Fire, was an amazing film. A perfect blend of music and violence as a loner reluctantly joins forces with his ex's manager and an ex army chic and sets out to rescue his ex girlfriend from a destructive motorcycle gang. Great songs, great characters, and a fun time all around.
6
Serenity 2005,  PG-13)
Serenity
Joss Whedon's sci-fi masterpiece. Serenity concludes the prematurely cancelled television show Firefly. Great characters, great acting, great writing. This is sci fi at its best. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out on something special. Best watched after the short 13 episode series to get the full impact of the story!
7
Dune 1984,  PG-13)
Dune
In my opinion this is one of David Lynch's best films. Great, almost haunting soundtrack, great acting and some good effects (for the time). One of the few roles I'll remember Kyle MacLachlan for. An old room mate and I used to watch this film at least once a week.
8
Legend 1986,  PG)
Legend
Ridley Scott's fantasy masterpiece. Tom Cruise and Tim Curry in early performances. Legend goes down in my books as one of the best fantasy romances ever made about the power of love in a wolrd of darkness and demons.
9
The Evil Dead 1981,  R)
The Evil Dead
Sam Raimi's early horror masterpiece. Raw low budget genius! Sam Raimi will always be one of horror's greatest icons. One of the goriest films of its time and genuinely scary at times!
10
True Romance 1993,  R)
True Romance
Directed by Tony Scott and penned by Quinten Tarrantino. This violent tale of romance, drugs and guns was my first introduction to Tarrantino's writing. It's all there and any QT fan can pick up on all his trademarks throughout this film. Tony Scott on the other hand is an amazing action/drama director who almost always finishes his films with a huge gunfight. An amazing cast and great chemistry is the cream topping on this perfect sundae!
11
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
The Wachowski Bros gave every sci fi nerd the stuff of dreams in the original film. An over the top orgasm of violence and coolness that we've never seen on the big screen. This was it. Not many movies have come and gone since the original Matrix that lived up to, and surpassed all the hype surrounding it. The two sequels brought it down with muddled nonsensical dialogue that sounded more like fortune cookie ramblings. The effects on the sequels were also weaker than the original. The Matrix (the original) stands well enough alone and has set a standard for sci fi - fantasy film experiences
12
The 13th Warrior 1999,  R)
The 13th Warrior
I'm not a huge Antonio Banderas fan, but John McTiernan is up there as one of my favorite action directors. This film was a very simple "good versus evil" story. Great acting, the supporting cast made the film. And although very simple storytelling, it was very effective. An awesome soundtrack to boot! I never tire of watching this film.
13
The Fifth Element 1997,  PG-13)
The Fifth Element
Luc Besson using the design works of Moebius in the creation of this fantastic, fun action flick set in a very distant future. This film should not be taken seriously, its meant to be a Scifi/action/comedy and it succeds on every level. Great cast with great chemistry, an awesome soundtrack, and effects that speak for themselves.
14
Black Rain 1989,  R)
Black Rain
Another Ridley Scott gem. Michael Douglas is fantastic as a New York cop trying to find revenge in Japan. For its time Black Rain was one of the best cop thrillers ever made. actually not many have come since that even compare!
15
Le Pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) 2001,  R)
Le Pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf)
A French film that barely saw the light of day here in North America, drowned by the release of Lord of the Rings. Brotherhood is a fantastic accomplishment melding martial arts to a period horror, fantasy. The script was brilliant, the acting fantastic, and the choreography incredible. The directing and cinematography were also excellent. Without giving anything away, Brotherhood of the Wolf is a must see film for everyone. Both the subtitles and the English dubbing are fantastic and accurate, making it very accessible. Don't miss out on this one!!!!!!!
