One of the best films I've ever seen. It is creative and quirky, while still managing to create empathy for the characters. Nobody but the French could produce something as original as Amelie. |

The Shawshank Redemption 1994, R)
The feeling of hope that this movie portrays, despite the horrors that Andy and his friends experience in prison, is truly uplifting to the human spirit. The viewer, like Red, finds himself turned from a skeptic into a believer at Andy Dufresne's quiet dignity and refusal to give up hoping. It is a beautiful story of transformation and friendship in a dark place, and will leave anyone feeling like their burdens have been lifted away. Marvelous and unforgettable. |
