3
White Zombie 1932,  Unrated)
White Zombie
Could have been a silent film...but than we would miss Bela's wonderfully evil/seductive voice.
The haunting music....the unworldly zombies and Lugosi's GREAT unreal presence take this above and beyond it's B Movie roots. Lugosi can convey evil with the raise of an eyebrow or the slight trace of a sly smile. One of my favorite movies of all time. OF ALL TIME. (Of course, I'm a Lugosi addict...and many may find it stilted and dated, due to the sloww pacing and the melodramatics of the other players...)
Trivia: Madge Bellamy was once a silent actress...and she died at an early age after a short life strife with scandle and tradgedy.)
Jack Pierce...the genuis responsible for all the classic Universal monster make-ups, went on loan to do the spooky zombies.
I went to a White Zombie concert here in Michigan, and a highlight was Bela's hypnotic eyes on a large screen behind the band as they were doing 'More Human than Human'!
