Overly naturalistic. Likely due in large part to not having that much of a thesis to communicate. But not uninteresting. In either concept or execution.

Oh HBO, how I love you people. Seriously, this might just be the best biographical film I've ever seen. Certainly one that covers such a large chunk of a person's life in such a: close, orderly, chronological fashion. In well under two hours at that. Brilliantly insightful and nuanced. Danes' work is ridiculously good. And perhaps most impressively, it just doesn't feel like a film that's laboring through events. It is entirely devoid of that particular variety of staleness that imbues the vast, vast majority of films where large stories are drastically compressed. Whether they be biographies, novel adaptations - most all such films suffer from this symptom. Even some of the films I like very much. But this one just flows. In such a brilliantly effortless, cohesive, creative way. Extremely impressive.

The film may not be one perfect symphony through and through, but there are plenty of glowing bits scattered all over the place. More than adequately setting up the punchline. An overwhelmingly, devastatingly accurate punchline.
