My Favorite Movies

  psychosags's Rating My Rating
1
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
One of the best philosphy movies ever. Action fans get their fill and at the same time are exposed to life changing ideas and forced to take a look at the hard truth of modern day society. This movie is my all time favourite movie. (NOTE: When I refer to this movie, I refer only to the 1st Matrix movie, the sequels continue the action theme, but lose a lot - but not all - of the philosophy.)
2
Fight Club 1999,  R)
3
Big Fish 2004,  PG-13)
Big Fish
Tim Burton can make any story into an extrordinary movie, but when you give him an extrordinary story such as this one, he can make a work of art beyond your wildest dreams.
This is one of his most impressive movies to date.
4
The Village 2004,  PG-13)
The Village
A great fictional example of using fear to control the population. M Night is an amazing storyteller, and this is a nicely drawn story that closely mirrors our 'political powers-that-be' and their use of fear to attempt to control our way of life.
5
Lord of War 2005,  R)
Lord of War
Myself, being a strong believer that guns may in fact kill people, I found this movie very reinforcing. Lord of War deals not only with the small wars all around this small planet, but the larger governments part in those wars. A very eye-opening movie.
6
American History X 1998,  R)
7
The Fountain 2006,  PG-13)
8
The Usual Suspects 1995,  R)
9
A Clockwork Orange 1971,  R)
A Clockwork Orange
Stanley Kubrick saw a world unlike any other director. His ability to provoke sympathy in someone so comtemptable as 'Young Alex' is beyond the understanding of many of today's current directors.
10
Waking Life 2001,  R)
11
Phil the Alien 2004,  R)
12
Nothing 2003,  R)
