An absolutely perfect action movie, Robert Patrick does a fantastic job as the T-1000 making him look creepy as fuck even though he isn't physically imposing.
The concept of the Terminator movies should by all means be cheesy and crap but instead it works on so many different levels that I can't help loving it.
The whole paradox of John sending his own father through time to save his mother and conceive him in the first place and the fact that Skynet is created because they find the chip from the first Terminator that Skynet sent back through time only makes this movie even more interesting.
The special effects and soundtrack help make this the best action movie of all time, so many great ideas and more awesome gun fights than any other movie in the 16 years since.
If you haven't seen this movie yet then you deserve to be shot on sight.
This has quickly become one of my favourite movies, the events that unfold are so stupendously erratic that it's hard to believe that they're actually just the life story of one American living life anyway he wants and getting away with some of the most outstanding displays of self destruction ever.
I've never taken drugs but for some reason I still felt that I could relate to Hunter S. Thompson as portrayed by Depp.
Very random and very entertaining, a lot of people won't get this movie but if you have the proper mind set there aren't many movies that can match this for comedy.
Still has some of the best drawn animation around even although it's now 11 years old. One of the most engaging plots with loads of interesting concepts and esoteric attention to detail coupled with excellently executed action scenes. I don't think i'll ever get tired of watching this movie.
I usually go out of my way to avoid love stories, there's nothing more boring than watching a film where two people are in love but don't realise it and something happens to make them appreciate each other. It's such a trite idea and is usually just to cater for people that need reinforcement in their belief that "True Love" actually exists. Which is why I was surprised when I watched Eternal Sunshine and thought it was excellent! This is primarily a visual film with amazing use of CGI and simple editing but the actual plot is interesting too.
One of the only movies I feel like watching immediately after I've just finished watching it. Best comedy I've ever seen. Can't even pick one fault in the whole movie.
It's a rare occasion for a movie to make you try new drinks, get a new hobbie, play Wii bowling constantly and be quoted at least 20 times a day.
If I could recommend one movie to anyone it'd be this one.
Nowhere near as confusing as I was expecting, keeps you thinking and is so visually stunning that it's impossible not to like. Anyone who marks this lower than 4/5 should have their head examined or sit through a repeat viewing to get the part that they obviously missed.
In saying that I've just read the synopsis for the film for the first time and I'm now wondering if I watched the same movie as the guy who wrote it.
Some of the most impressive camera shots ever seen. Sticks close to the book and has the same eerie feel.
Didn't feel like it was on for 2 1/2 hours to me and some of the parts that people say last too long I think could have actually lasted a bit longer (I.e the apes at the start).
The score is perfect and makes the long speechless scenes enjoyable as well as helping to build tension whenever the Monolith is on screen.
Loses a star because despite the fact that it made perfect sense to me since I read the novel first, it's easy to see why people who have only watched the movie get left behind.
I think this story could do with a remake to improve the visuals if it wasn't for the fact that it would turn out to be a Hollywood mess staring someone like Ben Afleck.
The best of the three movies (that's right, the prequels don't even count.) So much more action than A New Hope as well as having a more intricate plot and a vastly improved script. If only Lucas had handed the prequel trilogy over to more capable directors like he did with Empire Strikes back and (to a lesser extent) Return of the Jedi maybe the general fanbase would have had six amazing SW movies to be geeky about, I reckon someone else could have done a good job of "making the movies for kids" and satisfying the existing adult fans without too much trouble.
So much about this movie appealed to me on so many different levels, the plot, animation and narrative all work so well that the end result is absolutely outstanding and surprisingly entertaining when it's not being depressing.
Robert Downie Jr steals the show yet again (fair enough, I know this was released before Zodiac but I watched this after).
The best film i've seen all year, great action and really fast paced. David Belle's tricks in this are amazing! and Cyril Raffaelli kicks some serious ass to boot! Not much of a plot to speak of but it really doesn't need one since that's not what the film is about.
From the moment I saw the teaser trailer I knew I was gonna love this movie. I'm a sucker for action films (even liking 2Fast 2Furious) and this is the action film to end all action films! It looks great, has an amazing soundtrack (with the exception of the 5-6-7-8s) and has more swords than you can shake a stick at. I like tartan asian movies and so the style of Vol.1 is definitely part of the appeal. One of the best things about Kill Bill is the way it seamlessly introduced an anime section into the movie that was accepted and enjoyed by so many people that would usually see anime as "cartoons". Can't wait for the fully animated installments of Vol.3 & 4!
This movie is everything that it should be and more!
Rodriguez has really managed to get the style, sound and feel of this movie exactly as it's supposed to be (unlike Tarantino's effort with Death Proof) and the result is 90 minutes of brainless enjoyment.
After seeing this I'm convinced that Robert Rodriguez should have been given the license for the Resident Evil movies, Planet Terror manages to get the feel of those games on screen without even trying.
The true stroke of genius with this movie takes the form of the placement of the "missing reel", you really couldn't have found a better place to include it.
It's not going to win any awards but it's easily the best movie I've seen this year thus far.
My one problem with Planet Terror is the casting of Freddy Rodriguez as El Ray, he's good in it but too much of a pretty boy to be taken seriously as a bad ass.
I like this for many of the same reasons I like Kill Bill with the exception that Last Samurai would have been so much better if the ending had been slightly different (don't want to waste it for anyone).
Finally got around to watching this for the first time since I was a kid, It is excellent but controversially I think Rocky Balboa was better even if just marginally so. This one lacks the inspirational dialogue that made Balboa that bit better for me. It does have some excellent quotes though.
This movie will forever hold a dear place in my heart after watching it 3 times in 2 weeks with some of my best mates, the whole experience is too much to sum up in a Flixster review.
I envy anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet though I feel sorry for everybody that watched it without a drunken Steve-O and Tommy in the room.
Such a fun film, the worst thing about it is that it finished! I'd say this was Studio Ghibli's most childish movie so far but that doesn't detract from it what so ever. Wish Totoro was in it more too, whenever he's off screen I was just waiting for him to make another appearence. Got that same warm feeling that Danny had after watching it. I prefer Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away but i'd still strongly recommend watching My Neighbour Totoro to anyone.
Controversially I'm actually lowering my rating of Alien after watching it again.
I've loved this movie as long as I can remember and still do, the reason I'm marking it down is because it hasn't dated well at all, the special effects are absolutely dire and the Alien itself just isn't scary since you never see it moving fast or actually doing anything.
There's still a lot to like about this movie but aside from how it looks there are a lot of other things I don't like about it, they're quite small points but they add up, Everyone's heard the saying "Ignorance is Bliss" well this is one of those examples, watching this growing up I didn't know as much about science as I know now and that's obviously a huge reason as to why I've loved it. Now all the errors stand out too much and detract from the movie a lot.
It's still a movie that is pretty much compulsary viewing for anyone into their films and it is original in it's appearence for that time as well as responsible for one of the best action sequels ever.
In short, if you haven't seen it already then sort that out as soon as possible but if you didn't grow up watching it then don't expect too much from it.
Well paced with a solid plot and brilliant action and top performances from Weaver and Michael Biehn.
The tense feel of the movie owes a lot to the motion trackers in it, even when you know what's going to happen they unsettle you easily and leave you holding your breath.
I love this film just as much now as I did the first time I saw it.
One of the best feel good movies i've ever seen. Subtly funny with a good plot, memorable quotes, good action, excellent character development and a brilliant sound track.
Ok, rated this already but who made the synopsis for this one? A bloody out of work clown? Have you seen Star Wars? Luke Slywalker can hardly lay claim to "Assembling his motley crew of allies" he's a hapless twat in New Hope who just happens to get dragged into the war.
Don't care what anyone says, Milla Jovovich has never been hotter in any other film!
This movie deserves all the credit it gets with such an excellent cast in a well paced action sci-fi that hasn't really been matched for comedy and content.
The purposly cheesy costumes and alien designs could have made this a cheap looking T.V movie but instead they add to the off-beat feel of the film.
Awesome soundtrack too, the Opera / fight scene is so effectively mixed.
I fucking love this movie, would recommend it to anyone ever! Luc Besson has an amazing talent for action movies. The one thing that disturbs me in this is that Natalie Portman is like 12 and I can't help drooling thinking about her now when i'm watching it. What's that I hear? The police? coming to arrest me on paedo charges?
Absolutely brilliant from the get go, the first depiction of Adolf Hitler that actually conveys the fact that he was a real person and not some two dimensional goon.
Watched this again last night, what a fucking amazing film! So many quotable lines that i've already forgotten.....is that a good thing or a bad thing?
More explosions than you can shake a stick at. I'm actually surprised at how little I have to say about this movie considering how much I actually love it.
Could actually feel my skin trying to detatch itself from my person so many times in this film, never felt so uneasy for other people in a movie ever before.
You can't watch this and not feel better though since your life will never be that bad.
An absolutely fucking beautiful movie! Anything I could possibly say about it would just come of as wanky and help hype it up to the point that someone out there will end up thinking it's overrated so I'm not even going to bother.
Just get it swatched and maybe shit yourself when you see the faun shake it's creepy yellabus leg for the first time.
I didn't really get caught up in the hype for this one, I knew I was going to like it just from the trailer but wasn't expecting it to be quite as good as it is.
Even if Ledger hadn't died shortly after it's completion you would have heard his name mentioned just as much but probably in a more comparable context to Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean because he steals the show in every scene he appears in, so much so that it's easy to overlook the great job that Christian Bale does as Batman for a second time.
It's already been mentioned in other reviews but I think the fact that The Dark Knight has absolutely no swearing or blood warranting it's 12A certificate but manages to be darker and feel more like an adult orientated movie than a lot of 15s or even 18 certificate films is a testament to the quality of the script and performances of everyone in the film.
Another thing that I really like about Christopher Nolan's adaptations of Batman is the fact that he's made them completely believable, all the gadgets that Batman employs are given a good explanation (even though some of them are still out with our grasp of science) and the villains so far have absolutely no supernatural abilities, it'll be interesting to see where the next instalment goes with this since the other villains in the Batman mythos tend to be a bit wanky and out there.
