i find it hard 2 review this film because i had thought sometimes ratings speak for themselves..but i've come 2 realise, among the other movies that i hv rated as 5-stars this movie clearly deserves distinction.
alrite then...here we go
well i have always loved 2 c a dinosaur onscreen....worth mentioning that i used 2 collect different dino stickers & other stuff..from a very young age...even going 2 a regional science park was merely an excuse 2 see d dinosaur dummy there..
about the movie well.....this was the 1st dvd i ever bought...besides...probably the 1st English language film i ever saw...& even though i hv watched a great deal of brilliant movie masterpieces..honestly no movie has mesmerised me so much.
speaking of the various dimensions of the film..
all the actors in the movie were unknown 2 me obviously at the time i saw it but i dont think any of the characters were improper...the impact they left on me was great.
now if i consider the movie on its technical aspects...it was certainly way ahead of its time.awesome animatrix, brilliant sound editing & above all supreme direction..a special thanks 2 crichton who imagined such a thing & speilberg for making it come alive.
Finally as i see it for the 300th time...i would like 2 say one thing.."no matter how old i get,no matter how excellent movies i see in future...this movie will always remain my #1 movie & my most favourite of all time".
I never wanted to write a review on this film. Why?
Because I believed words are never enough to describe the greatness of the film.Sadly for some of my local friends this was just another drama movie of 200 minutes,so I had to convince them how great this movie really was!
On my fourth viewing I finally admit there can't be any movie so perfectly prepared ever.Describing holocaust is never easy & what Speilberg did was absolutely amazing.Ofcourse there's always this emotional attachment to any other Speilberg film, but if you're able to capture the capability of the film, you definitely got the worth of your 200 minutes.
I became an instant fan of Liam neeson after watching this film, his expressions, his dialogues truly reflected how deeply he was in the character.Watching him was like feeling every experience through your own eyes.Rest of the cast were also very brilliant in playing their parts.I dont think I'll ever applaud any performance as I did in this film.
also a word of praise to John williams for creating such a powerful & wonderful score that not only draws tears from your eyes but also moves your heart & a brilliant quote in the end by Ben kingsley, which really is one of the most meaningful
i'm gonna say the same thing what i said about superman returns...at 1st look.i believed it didn't match my expectations....but now i realise it's truly a masterpiece..brilliant performances
a brilliantly told story of how an adventure went on 2 change lives of two people & certainly..the story of che guevarra
no reason why i would rate it below 5 stars
highly applauded performance by all the actors
indeed the best biopic ever made
the commitment of actors, their portrayal of the characters ,the story how a young guy turns into a soulful human being..absolutely brilliant effort by the movie makers & the actors...
very touching as well as entertaining movie...
a must see for all....
oh..& i forgot 2 write abt the score....beautiful
the sound played at the end credits was so amazing.....smooth & touching....love this film..
bourne movies are amazing..just keeps getting better n better...what i like about the movie..no exaggerated stunts...real stunts..good script....& matt damon....he's just superb
EXCELLENT MOVIE
well yes this is the definition of a perfect movie.....where u sit back...enjoy the movie & applaud the performances....
SEAN CONNERY...& NICOLAS CAGE...THE BRILLLIANT PAIR...
GOOD PLOT,NICE SCORE & besides all these factors..the best part for me was ED HARRIS
what a performance!!!!!!!!!!!
his character truly made my day..
besides david morse, michael biehn's characters were good too...
hell yes....the rock.....truly
ROCKS
what a fantastic movie....outstanding!!!!!!!!
brilliant work of special effects, art designing...sound....hard 2 point any flaw
from my point of view...this should be the example for how movies should be followed up with really awesome story....
excellent performances from liam neeson & ewan mcgreggor...though neeson was far better than any other character in the series...besides the most faboulos climax in a star wars movie & then like the '"icing on the cake'":-the fantastic lightsaber combat between qui-gon & obi wan against darth maul....superb display of skills
very impressive........the adventure continues...awesome entertainer
this is what u call a guy's movie
stylish dudes,no-nonsense attitude..ah they're my idols....lol
Barry Pepper
John Malkovich
Seth Green
Vin Diesel
what else do u want?
GLADIATOR might be my best epic movie of all tym..but watching 300 was just an awesome experience..brilliant acting performances, superb fighting sequences, excellnt use of visual graphics....of all the epic-fantasy genre films..this movie is just a milestone for many other films.
the perfect combination for a fantastic fantasy film...everything you'd wish 2 see..brilliant narrative style story-telling,nice story,superb characters n performances..exceptional graphical set design.....overall a wonderul experience of a dreamland
what a movie....
just wonder whom should i really praise...!!!!
john woo for such great film & characters, john travolta for his awesome performance or samantha mathis for her kick-ass moves.
I gotta admit travolta will always be my fav. villain......the class, the coolness with which he gives such characters the polish he just rocks
speaking about the movie...the plot was pretty awesome...with awesome stunts,non-stop action & the death of john travolta...........whooa freeakin awesome...thumbs up
die hard has certainly made me its die-hard fan
now that was a perfect action film.
yipee ka yay-john mcclane ....of all the roles i've seen bruce willis in...this will remain the best role he's ever portrayed & hans gruber is just iconic....
perfect image of hollywood villain...wont hesitate 2 say he remains my most favourite bad guy of all time...& it seemed 2 me no one could ever do it without the pair of willis-rickman
perfect just perfect.
wow.......scary
reminded me of the scared feeling i usually got when i read fantasy-horror stories as a kid.....
brilliantly written....craftfully displayed
& ofcourse...scary
fantastic movie ....luv d concept
every aspect was interesting
i watched Ocean's Thirteen recently...now this...
i think i just might end up in las vegas....
wud hv given 5 stars if i really knew hw 2 play blackjack...but neverthless superb performances...gr8 film & again a special thanks 2 arron for suggesting me & creating my interest ....u rock pal
one of sanjay dutt's greatest & best performances....very touching...very much apprehended portrayal.
with sm gud roles by rakhee, jackie shroff n pramod moutho..
nice title track....but above all sanjay dutt rocks
remember the line "when i'm good.i'm gud....when i'm bad....i'm better"
think it appropriately fits sanjay dutt...a lil longer than usual hollywood films...but boly films r usually long.....also it shows how important mother's role is in indian cinema.lol
gr8 film overall
seriously if u describe the film in a single word......HILLARIOUS
in many ways i thought it was sort of a prequel 2 'wedding crashers'
except this tym luke replaced owen...lol
the team of luke, will & vince make u laugh so bad like crazy......perfect team for a perfect film.
many of my friends have said that indian films r too sappy they tend to play with ur emotions just to make the filmmakers rich
i agree with the statement...but if a movie is made so good u cant wait urself 2 feel something about it....i cant believe i waited so long 2 watch the film.
the film was brilliant...nice story,good cast,beautiful songs & great performances...what else do u need?
shahrukh was brilliant in the film...though he's always a ladies man & has a great following...it was one of his roles where i really clapped for his performance....great character so full of life...so sad 2 see the tragic end of his character.
except shahrukh the only character that i liked was that of sonali bendre's but none of the rest of the cast were even good for me..
lilette dubey was also a bit of milf but..i adore her...what a woman!
nevermind that....the movie was a very good one.& one of the few movies that made me cry so hard....that showed how brilliantly the characters were played.the only lame thing about the film was its ending.
so if u read the review & watched the film...i believe u'd never return disappointed..
1 more thing that the movie taught me-"relish what u hv, dont care for what u dont hv..spread a smile...make someone happy 2de-who knows there's no 2morrow"
many of my friends wud say that giving it 5 stars will be a lil overrated.....but i surely cant lie that this movie didnt deserve it.
it kept me entertained throughout the entire movie.it had everything that i expected it to have...some of the exciting charcter names along with a great cast...it sereved some better performances from the actors i've seen
the bond of friendship between anthony edwards & tom cruise, the chemistry between kelly mcgillis & cruise, the cold competition among kilmer & cruise, the super solid tom skerritt...well what else do u need 2 be entertained?
i've seen many tony scott films....but trust me no film is as good as this 1 & believe this to be one of the best performance from him & cruise as well.
the soundtracks & the background score were also groovy, moving & pleasing...cool
& as much as it was a guys film...it was no less romantic in its own place.
finally 1 thing 2 add that i felt after watching this film
I love war movies & when you hear Ridley Scott behind the camera you usually know what to expect, well he doesn?t disappoint. So that justifies my star rating(Yeah...I'm biased...go on).
Speaking of the film, the film has too many characters to focus & too many big names to support it.Ewan Mcgreggor,Orlando bloom,Eric bana,Josh Hartnett,Jason Isaac are just a few examples of the ensemble cast .But the most impressive thing with the cast was it didn't really hamper the progress of the film, nor did it stop the story which was meant to be told about the not-so successful mission in Somalia.
The film is very well-done in its technical aspects as well, the cinematography is so brilliant that at times the scenes feel so real that makes you say, "yeah it was worth watching!" The background score & the soundtrack by Hans zimmer is also very wonderfully crafted(I even got the 3-CD edition of this film's OST immediately)! Now finally the film is such a master-piece that you'd be appreciating every dimension of it after you've finished watching it!
Considering it was based on a real story,it was pretty stunning to see how Mr.Scott captured the whole essence of it,genius indeed!
If you like watching war movies, you have to watch it!
From a 5-star rating it might appear that I'm a huge fan of the film & stuff, but you wouldnt believe me if I told you that I didnt even wish to buy the film in the first place!
But after watching it for the 1st time it became an instant favorite of mine & still whenever there's christmas I try to watch it.
All of the actors in this film contributed effectively which hence made a great film.Initially watching Joe Pesci in Scorcese films didnt make me a fan of him,but honestly the team of Pesci & stern make you laugh so hard at times, you'd barely able to hold it !
ofcourse there's the magical touch by John williams to this film as well which results in a wonderful background score!
The film also makes you realize how much you can miss your family if they're not around you & the church scene was really touching!
now I'll remember every year, "If it's christmas, then it's Home Alone time!
Just when I thought no movie could ever be compared to Gladiator.....
My first thought before watching this film was how I'm going to survive for the whole 210 minutes & trust me never felt bored by any single moment of it!
From the very beginning(which depicts the birth of Jesus christ) to the very end of the film, the movie was so brilliant!
For a movie of its time & even today I'll always regard it as perhaps the best movie ever made.
watching the film made me a big fan of charlton heston(& the very beautiful Cathy O'Donnell) ...his depiction of the titular character Judah Ben-Hur was excellent.Stephen boyd also served as a perfect friend-turned-enemy of Ben-hur.
also some good supporting characters provided by Jack hawkins,Hugh Griffith & Haya Harareet
The boat scene & the chariot scene were particularly very masterfully directed & no matter how much I write about it,it wouldn't be enough!
What a movie!......I'm so glad I watched this film in my lifetime.....BRAVO William Wyler for making such an epic
If you havent seen it yet...well make sure you watch it just once in your life!
One of the movies where I could hardly find a fault(well except the irritating little Drew Barrymore).
Like every movie, there will be lovers & haters to this one as well. But no matter what people think,it'll always be a masterpiece & do I need to tell that each time you see any Spielberg movie,it'll remind you of E.T.(remember the logo in his movies?)
Very cute movie,an instant favourite for me after the first watch & even watching it after 28 years of its release doesnt make a difference in its brilliance.
So finally one more Spielberg film in my favs & John Williams....IS A LEGEND!
Regarding my rules about watching a film, there's a certain one that says...no movies released before 70s,a bad reason but if the movies are like Ben-Hur,Lawrence of Arabia & now Butch cassidy...I'd just say one thing....it's time to make new rules!
For a movie released in 1969,the movie barely looks like it's 41 years old.The western setting could be considered a contributing aspect on that matter.Speaking of westerns this is also my 3rd favorite western (others include The good, the bad & the ugly and The quick & the dead) .While most of the films around that time feel a little corny, there's little of that in this one.Besides my personal thought ha always been that 70s era was way better than the 80s.
The movie featured one of the best onscreen duos ever,Robert Redford & Paul Newman together, now who wouldnt pay to see them together just once? And guess what, as much as you expect of them, they never fail you.You gotta admire those guys for living up to your expectations. This is a perfect western movie...& after watching it you realise why westerns were not so entertaining before & after as well.
If you've seen Bandidas, starring Penelope cruz & Salma Hayek, you cant stop thinking that somehow it was a homage to Butch Cassidy & the sundance kid.Anyways I admit it's probably the most entertaining movie that I've seen this year so far. It's more comical than typical western action & romance, but neverthless is a perfection in its own league! As usual the lost in translation moments are hillarious & the look on Paul Newman's face inside the bank in Bolivia....PRICELESS!
I also admit I miss Newman,he provided some of the scenes with such charisma that you almost forget it's not Paul Newman you're watching,it's Butch Cassidy. Also the movie is composed with some of the most melodious tracks perfect for the film.Raindrops keep falling is surely the best song I've heard in a while.
one final question.......why dont they make good westerns like this anymore?
Each time you see a Shakespeare adaptaion on screen, you just think one thing, Bravo! Shakespeare!
As said Omkara is the adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello. As brilliant is the original story, the adaptation is just as perfect.
Really it was one of the Bollywood films that I had long waited to see & now that I've seen it,just one word.......AMAZING!
Everything about this film was so brilliant.....check out the characters'names....Langda Tyagi,Omkara,Kesu Firangi...each one of them reminds you of old school Hindi movies.Movies that were so perfect that no one dared to speak against it.
More reasons why you should watch it...the dialogues are spoken in Khariboli dialect, not the typical Hindi language,so most of the usual Hindi viewers might find that a bit hard to understand. But the dialogues are bloody brilliant...ofcourse they are pretty heavy on the obscene side, but most of us do use them...I think this was one more of such an example of why you should make realistic films, rather than those fancy stories.
All the actors deliever excellent performances....Ajay Devgan in the title role,Nasseruddin shah in the role of Bhaisahab,Kareena Kapoor as Dolly,Konkona sen sharma as Indu & finally the very best Saif Ali Khan as Langda Tyagi! Gotta admit here I've seen saif in many rom-coms but this is undoubtedly his best performance.
I especially adore these performances because these are not the usual kind of roles you'd see these actors playing...though Nasseruddin shah has been in some more arthouse films, for the rest of the cast...certainly a very good change!
I just have a slight problem with the casting of Vivek Oberoi,no doubt his casting was made to fit the casanova nature of his character, but the guy is so irritating that even in a good role he looks like he's overacting.Infact nothing wrong with his acting here, but once you hate an actor,it's really difficult to appreciate him in a good role!
But well the above mentioned factor is just a personal note,so that shouldnt really bother anyone who's watching the film. There might be a lot of guys out there who enjoy the typical bollywood films.....but if you watch it once,I bet there isnt a single flaw that you could point out in it! In plain words this movie is easily the tru modern legend of the Hindi Cinema Industry...you better not miss it out!
Few years back when I read the story of True Romance....I immediately thought with a cast like that & a story like this it would be a total mindblowing movie. That was before I saw any of Tarantino's films,Guy ritchie's films or any such mixture of action, crime & humour.
But after several repetitions of such kind of films when I finally watched True Romance...I didnt feel all that excited.
I asked myself several times about my dislike for it & I finally figured movies should be seen in their proper chronology.
Because honestly speaking True Romance has everything........a fine cast, great characters, brilliant humour, excellent dialogues, nice background score & a sexy Patricia Arquette. What more could I posssibly ask for in a film.So as someone mentioned here, may be I'm too tired of the Tarantino way(even though it's a Tony scott film).
Neverthless despite my rants & ramblings....I'll still add it as a favorite of mine.Cause my unattachment wont reduce the film's class in anyway.Wish I could enjoy it as expected.
I would steal a line from what my friend Darryl said here on his recommendation......KICKASS kicked my ass! Yay!
Very few times would you have witnessed a title which matches its nature. What a bloody brilliant movie! Well obviously if you read my previous reviews on films like 2012,Munich & Gangs of New York & thought that's all I watch & like...you're mistaken.
Kickass is ultraviolent, full of cartoonish comic moments,a little satirical too & finally a lot of ass-kicking! Obviously it helps with the casting of my favorite actors Nicolas Cage & Mark strong & Jason Flemyng in a cameo, along with the beautiful Yancy Butler & Lyndsy Fonseca...but still it delievers what it promises.
If you saw superhero movie & thought kick ass is just like that...you're wrong.....think again! The film is also packed with a brilliant soundtrack, quite appropriate for the subject.
Speaking of Chloë Grace Moretz....she played Tom's sister in 500 days of summer right? Check Kickass for her amazing lightening moves & how lethal hit-girl really is!
Also there's a little caution towards the audience..if you're a big follower of Roger Ebert or dislike films like Small soldiers,Narnia,Harry potter or Robocop-2,okay in plain words if you dislike violence/obscene language performed by children......I'd strongly recommend you to distance from the movie.Hit girl surely kicks some serious ass!
Do you remember the last time you saw a man of law with 100% honesty?
That's the first thing I'lll always remember about Traffic.A great film from director Steven Soderbergh whom I previously admired as an entertaining(ocean's) movie maker....little did I know he could make such serious films too.Packed with a solid all-star cast, the movie reflects upon several issues,be it the whole mafia-war for monopoly or even focusing on the addiction of young people with drugs. The movie might prove a little slow for general audience...but if you sit through the whole film,I bet you wont be disappointed. The big names associated with it don't overshadow the plot or any message that Soderbergh wanted to convey. So obviously you've gotta admire the actors for their performances & again the director for successfully being able to bring out suhc performances.
As said,Benicio Del Toro provides yet another brilliant character along with Mike douglas & Don Cheadle.I'm not a big fan of Benjamin Bratt but I'll admit he was quite good in his small cameo as well. The part involving rich spoiled kids getting high was a little irritating but I guess it was necessary to provide a view into how addiction gets sronger each time. The only problem I had with this film was Amy irving who is just irritating, but I guess you won't be seeing much of her character....which was a relief.
Sometimes it occurs to me that there are some words which you could associate with certain directors....i.e- destructive for Roland Emmerich, thoughtful for Chris Nolan & Iconic for Martin Scorsese. From Raging Bull to Shutter Island, no matter whether you love or hate a movie...you can't deny it's iconic status. The movies are so brilliant in their own way that you cant stop admiring.
Gangs of New York is equally of such iconic stature, from the performance of young Cian McCormack as the young Amsterdam to the portrayal of Priest Vallon by Liam Neeson. From the depiction of revolution in America to the celtic cross in priest's hand everything is.....perfect!
Very rarely do you see such a movie with grand stars with such a great director presenting such a wonderful film.I'm in love with everything related with this movie.I was a bit skeptical about the casting of Cameron diaz...but she wasnt a bad choice for the role.
One of my friends Elvira says that the casting of Dicaprio in the role of Irish Amsterdam Vallon is a huge mistake...well if you judge by accents.....he sounds little like an Irishman....but in the flow of the movie & the brilliant performances I totally forgot to pick flaws.
Also another thing to note for me was the change in roles that the actors would be associated with...I can imagine Daniel Day lewis,Liam neeson,Brendon Gleeson in the nature of their roles(dont blame me it's a coincidence they're all british)...but John C. Reilly,Cameron Diaz,Judy greer & Leonardo Dicaprio truly surprising...but I think they played their parts extremely well...without giving you a chance to complain(not unless you want to).
Another precious thing about it is the score of the movie...if you have the OST....you truly have class....The hands that built America by U2......ah amazing!
Thank you Mr.Scorsese for making Gangs of New York!
It's the second time(after Schindler's List) that I've seen Spielberg directing a serious movie. This time based on the terrifying true event of the munich massacare.
I would admit that I might sound partial here for a few reasons....I like the entire filmography of Spielberg(or as much as I've seen),I like Eric bana as an actor,I'd admire Geoffery rush in whatever character he plays...I also enjoy seeing daniel craig as anything separated from the big blockbusters. So what else excuse may I provide for adding this film in my favourites?
The movie is accurate in its depiction of events(as agreed by political figures & pundits)...the acting is realistic, the actors & their characters are damn good.....WHAT more would you look for in a movie to be entertained?
Honestly if you're looking for some seriously good acting you'll find it here...trust me! A final note to Spielberg.....Sex & tragedy dont mix....it really looks horrible!
Dude this movie was such a rollercoaster, one of my most fav teen films.....amongst many I've seen my whole life.
The movie released in 90s,is set in the 80s or 70s(I'm too ecstatic to remember....LOL).What's special about this movie is, it's one of the movies from the 90s, whose focus is not on sex.The movie reminds me so much of my fresher days during my first year at the university, particularly because am now in my final year & would leave my university in a few months. And for all those who think this movie is about a bunch of kids getting stoned, well that's not all.
It portrays the final day of the school for freshmen & simultaneosly their introduction to seniors via hazing(known as ragging here).Although in a matter of speaking it could be compared to Can't hardly wait, since both films focus on the last day of students in school & a lot of partying,it's much better than Can't hardly wait.
There's nothing very extraordinary about this film, but yet it's the nostalgia, the golden memories it brings....if the intention was same from the director, well he's got it!
Additionally the film has a fantastic soundtrack comprising of some of the best 80s songs.Which complements the movie in every possible way.
Well anyone who has a celebrity crush would fall in love with this movie instantly.I suppose you wont ask who I'm in love with(no I dont mean Julia Roberts if you were thinking so)! Well besides that obvious reason there are also a few more reasons why I loved this film.
First-it's set in England, not a very outstanding setting or anything. But solely because I consider England my second home thanks to my chums Arron & Becks! I'm not a huge fan of romantic-comedies & dont look out for every fresh release on the block. But watching such a sweet movie once in a while provides some relief amongst all the serious movies I've been watching.
The story is sweet, believable from a very highly optimistic view(That's kind of ironic as compared to the realistic movies viewing, isnt it?).The cast is also very well chosen(with the exception of Rhys Ifans)!I'm not a fan of Hugh Grant, infact I despise him greatly.I can still say it was a right choice to cast him for this part.He adds this charming sweet guy image so brilliantly that makes you fall in love with him.In a lighter way you could probably say that it just teases the general idea that English guys are so enigmatically charming & sober that women all over the world fall for them(see I'm making you popular Arron! ;D) .Again it's ironic that despite his reputation Hugh grant was offered to play the character. Julia Roberts is equally suitable for the character of a successful movie-star in the film. She looks so pretty in the movie.Together they look perfect onscreen,it obviously works in favour of the movie.Who doesnt want a great pair in a Rom-Com?
Now speaking of the supporting cast, like I said except Rhys Ifans & Emma Chambers as Grant's sister I think I liked the rest of the characters.Hugh Bonneville's character may be a pun on the general opinion that british people are ignorant towards movies & always they're portrayed a bit slapstick/goofy.Emma Chambers & Rhys Ifans could be described as such characters. Also there's Tim McInnerny as Max & Gina McKee as Bella, perfect as a caring couple & nice supportive friends.Gina Mckee plays a very nice supportive role.So beautifully that I almost forgot Emily Mortimer, one of my favorite women was cast as the "Perfect Girl".Also there's a small cameo by the young Mischa Barton.
Well apart from its romantic moments, mushy moods the movie has its hillarious moments, though not typical british, but mostly situation based. Also the soundtrack consists of some beutiful songs as well.
Ah,I dont know what else to say,I guess I'm just smitten. But I'll surely say one thing having a book store in Notting Hill could be the next best thing!I wont pursuade everyone to watch it,but if you do I think you'll adore it just as much.
I have never watched a film in 3-D & since I never visit cinema halls I dont think I'll ever watch one.But when movies are like this one,Avatar......I truly miss watching a movie in 3-D!
As said, the special effects are brilliant,so is the acting from every actor in their respective characters.Be it Alan Rickman's hookah-sipping caterpillar or Johnny Depp's mad hatter.Truly with the sudden burst of fantasy films,it gets difficult to separate good from bad.I assure you'd not find a movie so near-perfect in recent years.
Tim Burton's direction & the special effects indeed make it look like a dream.A dark yet wonderful dream with colorful characters which never cease to amaze you for one moment.
It's embarrassing to admit that the only movie version of Alice in Wonderland that I knew previously existed was the '72 Porno Version, but now after I've seen this version,I'm more than happy to consider it as the adaptation of that story. If you haven't seen it yet, you're surely missing one big adventure!
Excellent list...Most of these movies are my favorite too!Except the last 10 that I've never heard of them,I don't like only "Batman forever","Scooby Doo","Jaws" and "Harry Potter"...
