Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
A long time ago,
In a galaxy far,far away ...

Now this is the movie that gave birth to a saga. I remember being wowed the first time I watched in in the late 80s, and to this day I can watch this movie and enjoy it. It epitomizes the young hero coming to terms with his world in a way no other movie has been able to do since. I'd give it 6 or 7 stars, but there's no option :P

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
The Empire Strikes Back is the perfect example of what the second part of a trilogy should be. While it is not spectacular in itself, it sets the stage for the final chapter and bridges the relatively small world in A New Hope with the large galaxy that is Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 1983,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
A phenomenal ending to a phenomenal saga, Return of the Jedi shows us the final advent of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Apprentice to true Jedi Knight. We also see the final confrontation between Empire and Rebellion, Dark Side and Light Side, Father and Son ...

Transformers 2007,  PG-13)
Transformers
I loved it. One of the few movies I don't mind watching repeatedly.
When I first saw the movie, I couldn't help being taken back to all those episodes I watched as a kid or all the transformers I collected back then. Acting is decent, Musical Score brilliant, Cinematography is good the plot isn't too complicated or excluding for those new to the concept.
A definite must watch.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith 2005,  PG-13)
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
After the shameless debacle that was Episode I and II, George Lucas has certainly gone to great lengths to save this saga and it shows. While fans of the Original Trilogy may still feel that the prequel movies were bad, they will have to admit that Revenge of the Sith is an amazing movie, fully worthy of the the Star Wars label.

Love Actually 2003,  R)
Love Actually
Brilliant romantic comedy. This movie follows the lives and loves of various couples and tries to map out various forms of love. The characters grow on you, the plot absorbs you and the movie shuffles between the various characters very smoothly. My favorite bit is the dialog in the beginning as well as many well spaced one liners that I have grown to expect only from British actors.

Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children 2005,  PG-13)
Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children
If you love animation, digital gaming, anime or just plain sword fights - WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!
Based 2 years after the events of the game Final Fantasy VII, this movie not only gives the tale a conclusion, it also wows you with incredible animation. There are scenes in this movie when I wasn't sure if this was animated or real, its that good!
So, even if you aren't a fan of Animation, Games or swords, watch this one. It's worth it.

Stardust 2007,  PG-13)
Stardust
"A philosopher once asked, "Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?" Pointless, really...?Do the stars gaze back?" Now *that's* a question."
So begins the movie ... one of the best I've seen in a long time. A stunning example of the genre, it is exciting, adventurous and puts you in mind of some really old adventures. The cast is great, the dialogue unbelievable at times, the music apt, the cinematography brilliant, the costumes, props and universe well set up and the entire experience grand. One of Vaughns best works and definitely the best book-to-movie translation I've seen in recent years. 4.5 stars.
9
Merlin 1998,  PG)
Merlin
A must see for fans of High Fantasy and Arthurian Legend. This all star cast portrays a beautiful epic from an uncharted point of view ... that of the great wizard Merlin. Also, the resurrection of forgotten characters such as Merlin's love, Nimue, and the addition of the religious context makes this film quite enlightening too.
Things to look forward to: Sam Neill who plays a very convincing Merlin, Miranda Richardson in her dual roles, Martin Short as a cornucopia of characters and Helena Bonham Carter as Morgan Le Fey. Others include Isabella Rossellini as the lady Nimue and Rutger Hauer as the evil king Vortigern.
5 stars for this one and a recommendation to fans to add this one to their collection

Fight Club 1999,  R)
Fight Club
Now this is a movie every man (and a good number of women) should own a copy of. While those who read the book may be disappointed at the direction taken by the film, it is nonetheless an amazing watch. As I said before, every man should own a copy.
11
Akira 1988,  R)
Akira
This was my initiation into Anime when I was 7 or 8. I now have a copy that I watch at least 2-3 times a year. You should too.
12
V for Vendetta 2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
If you haven't seen this movie, you've missed out. If you didn't like this movie, you've missed out. But if you got even half of the references in the movie, you'd love it.
I had given up hope of seeing an intelligent movie until this came along. Truth to tell, I didn't expect much from the movie but left the theater unable to wipe that silly grin off my face. The parallels in this story to George Orwell's 1984, the Guy Fawkes symbology and development of the totalitarian, fascist government fascinated me to no end and if you're the kind of person who likes to be intellectually stimulated, this is the movie for you!
13
The Boondock Saints 2000,  R)
The Boondock Saints
Amazing movie and a must see for everyone ... well, maybe not if you're into organized crime.
14
300 2007,  R)
300
My best friend was a huge fan of Spartan warfare and first told me of this battle 8-10 years ago. I never knew about the graphic novel, but 300 plays true to the story. If you like history, you'd love this novel but largely accurate portrayal of the Battle of Thermopylae. If you like action, you'd love the explicit action sequences and the coordinated fight scenes. If you like the Graphic Novel, you'd love the way the producers have stuck to the script. All in all, this is a movie for mature audiences who love a good action flick.
15
Serendipity 2001,  PG-13)
Serendipity
While the style has been done to death, I still cannot help but rate this one of the best romantic movies I've seen come out of Hollywood. It's got the formula just right, with a great cast, good chemistry and a genuinely nice story. Perfect watching for an evening with your partner, or even if you're a sappy romantic.
16
Cashback 2006,  R)
Cashback
"Once upon a time I wanted to know what love was. Love is there if you want it to be; you just have to see that it?s wrapped in beauty and hidden away between the seconds of your life. If you don?t stop for a minute, you might miss it."

This is one of the best movies I've seen in a really long time. To put it simply, this is brilliant.
The acting is good with decent on screen chemistry. The only role that is of any challenge is the lead, played by Sean Biggerstaff, and it is done in style. The direction is breathtaking and, coupled with the amazing cinematography, is an example of what to expect from a truly talented director and writer. The music score is great and some of the narration is brilliantly timed, seamlessly highlighting the plot.

While the movie is for a more mature audience, it is tastefully done and a recommended watch.
