The Prince of Tides
My biggest tear-jerker movie ever. Nolte plays the ultimate tortured soul with deep-rooted traumas. He so desparately wants to freely love his wife, his parents, his siblings, the South and himself. Yet, each has various boundaries. When he falls for Streisand's character it looks like it just might finally be the unconditional love he seeks. Instead, it becomes the ultimate sacrifice he makes in persuit of the other loves in his life.
25
The Way We Were 1973,  PG)
26
Roman Holiday 1953,  Unrated)
Roman Holiday
It's no wonder this film launched a superstar career for Audrey Hepburn, but for me it's about Gregory Peck. I like him here at least as much as his Atticus Finch role, maybe more. This film is the quintessential boy-meets-girl, boy-gets-girl, boy-loses-girl but so much more. A great choice to see if you want a holiday from your own world for 2 hours.

Every time I see this it's like the first time, but better. Of course, that's Hitchcock. One of my top 3 fave Gregory Peck roles. The part where he and Ingrid meet for the first time - that's just how I feel too. I find the story gets a little tedious when they become fugitives looking for the source of Peck's illness, but overall a gem.

I think this was the 1st Cruise movie I saw. To see it now, he looks 12 yrs old. But the film still holds up. A unique story that has a lot of fun with taking risks.

I love Minnelli! If only the real world had his Technicolor touch.
All-round good story but the Edens songbook is the star. Love the sidekick characters of Oscar Levant and Nanette Fabray. Fashions and styles are exquisite.

The Year of Living Dangerously
Just happened upon this on TCM and was pleasantly surprised. The cast was engaging. Gibson actally enjoyable and Sigourney was stunning. Linda Hunt's Oscar was well deserved. I really got swept up into the story but was left wondering whether it was their convictions or egos that were all-important.
94
Blast from the Past 1999,  PG-13)
Blast from the Past
I saw this when it first came out and had forgotten about it. Just watched it again and it seems even better. The cast is as good as it gets. Fantastic premise with hysterical moments. A bit cheesy at times but overall really well done.
95
Kiss of the Spider Woman 1985,  R)
Kiss of the Spider Woman
William Hurt's performance is probably the best of all time if you ask me. Raul Julia also excels. The story is moving and mindbending at once. Left me thinking about it for days.

Broadcast News 1987,  R)

From Here to Eternity 1953,  Unrated)
From Here to Eternity
This film probably deserves a 5 star rating (It did win 8 Oscars after all). It has all the elements I like, but I'm missing something from it. Enjoyed the cast most of all, especially Deborah Kerr, Frank Sinatra and Montgomery Clift.

The Country Girl 1954,  Unrated)
The Country Girl
All the mellodrama you want and more. Personally, not a big Cosby or Holden fan, but Grace Kelly proves to be the consumate actress - and deserved the Oscar (even though she robbed Judy Garland of her A Star is Born moment.) The story of the alcoholic has been done 100's of times, but this version is top notch. I particularly like the back-and-forth struggle between Crosby and Holden's characters. Add in the back story of forbidden love a-brewin' and you have a really great drama.
102
Finding Neverland 2004,  PG)
Finding Neverland
Just how does that Kentucky boy manage to pull off such a great Scottish accent? All of the acting here is way above par. The story is 'quite good', especially knowing that it's, at least in part, based on true events. God bless Mr. Barrie and his Peter Pan for keeping the child alive in us.
103
Rebecca 1940,  Unrated)
Rebecca
Classic Hitch. It was his first American made film. It won Selznick his 2nd Oscar in a row after GWTW. The perfect cast gives perfect performances. My fave Olivier role. He's dripping with sophistication, yet he has this lost boy layer underneath. And Mrs. Danvers? The ultimate embodiment of evil.

Capote 2005,  R)

L.A. Confidential 1997,  R)
L.A. Confidential
A perfect flick. The fantastic cast are at their best. Beautifully set in early 50's Hollywood. One of my faves.
