Juno 2007, PG-13)
It is very rare there is an oscar nominated film I actually can say I want to see. With Juno I can proudly say that ever since I seen the trailer I knew it would be a good film. And boy was I right. A remarkably simple yet cute story, this film is well written, acted and directed with an amazingly beautiful soundtrack. Already a favourite of 2008. |

Back to the Future 1985, PG)
Having seen this re-release in cinema's to celebrate it's 25th anniversary it killed me that I haven't rated it before. Its a certain classic and could quite possibly be one of my favourite films. It's just superb, the way the story is set out, the characters, it just never get's boring no matter how many times you re-watch it. What always amazes me is how tense I always get in the last 20 minutes. Superb film and a must see! |

Up 2009, PG)
We all know here that I'm very bias when it comes to Pixar so why change my opinion when it comes to their 10th feature, which by the way is just fantastic. Pixar just make fantastic films and while they are for kids I think adults prefer them. Up has some very adult themes...in the first 5 minutes it deals with a miscarriage and death...bold move from Pixar. Its a film that'll make you laugh, smile and cry which is just the sign of a good film in my opinion. Up is a film that now messes up my favorite Pixar film list and after another 10 viewings It'll continue to delight me and will no doubt delight my children in 20 years time. |

Toy Story 1995, G)
Toy story not only remains to one of pixars best films but is also the film that opened up a new generation of film making. Proving that Pixar puts story before animation this movie delights kids and adults alike and after 15 years of it's release, it still remains close to the heart of so many of people and in its recent 3D release it just brings something totally new to it...amazing. |

Shaun of the Dead 2004, R) |

Pan's Labyrinth 2006, R)
Not the film that you expect it to be. Pan's does what all successful film's do, it makes you care about the characters. The fantasy elements are lost on the audience because of the characters. I was reccomended this by so so many people and its unbelievable how much of a good film it is, brilliantly directed and surely the best thing to come out of spain. |

Where the Wild Things Are 2009, PG)
As I sat there from the beginning I just had a smile on my face. The score, Spike Jonze's style, the acting, the Indie feel...it is a blend that works. I wasn't going in to judge how well he adapted a 15 page children's book, its a friggin' Jonze film, its not Harry Potter. However on that note I think he tapped into the audience that really matters, the kids who have now grown up. A kids film this isn't, there is some heavy themes in this film and it was brave of the studio to let him run with that, but I think it works. Its dark, its moody...its emo in some ways. I thought Max did a fantastic job, for a 9 year old he carried that film well. The CGI in the faces was perfect. I will be first in line to buy the DVD upon release but right now I'm making do with the superb soundtrack. |

Let the Right One In 2008, R)
This is the exact kind of film which makes me want to be a film-maker. Everything about this film is perfection and again it goes to show that lately all of the best films are imports from elsewhere across the globe. Obviously hollywood has jumped upon this one alreasy and are planning a re-make, but why re-make prefection. All around greatness and highly deserves a viewing. |
