Plain and simple, these are my favorite movies. Some may not be pretty, or even that good, but by God I love them.

Aliens 1986,  R)
Aliens
James Cameron's flawless combination of action, suspense, deep storyline and complex characters make this my favorite movie of all time. Stan Winston's special effects are a Godsend in this balls-to-the-wall thriller as Siguourney Weaver and a group of colonial marines are thrust into the mouth of hell, surrounded by H.R. Giger's nightmarish creations. A flawless, endlessly entertaining movie.

Serenity
The parting gesture of Joss Whedon's shamefully ignored tv series Firefly. As a stand-alone film, it is still one of the most original sci-fi films in years, but as a Tv series finale, it's even better. I recommend ANYONE who found this movie remotely interesting to watch Firefly and be prepared to be that much more impressed.

A fabulous, gritty, and visceral vision of Frank Miller's groundbreaking graphic novel series. Robert Rodriguez' faithful film-noir style of artistic interpretation brings to life the stories of street thugs, corrupt cops, and dangerous women in Stilettos.

One of the best movies of 2005.

An excellent, straightforward movie of revenge and politics that brings the world of ancient Rome to life. Russel Crowe delivers a wonderful performance as the determined and charismatic Maximus. Contains some very entertaining battle scenes evoking memories of Spartacus.
