My Favorite Movies

1
Evil Dead 2 1987,  R)
Evil Dead 2
The best of the trilogy. Theffects are better than the first and I like "Scared Ash" a little better than "Blowhard Ash". Great scary fun
2
Army of Darkness 1993,  R)
Army of Darkness
Stupid, spooky fun. I'd like this even if Bruce weren't in this but since he IS in this that makes it one of the most excellent films in the history of awesomeness. Ash RULES !!!
3
Diner 1982,  R)
Diner
One of my favorites. The male equivalent of a chick flick. Good, naturalistic performances from the Diner guys ( even Guttenburg ! ) and great characters all around.
4
Night of the Living Dead 1968,  R)
Night of the Living Dead
The original walking dead and the scariest. A case where "low budget" actually adds to the atmosphere, making this seem like a documentary of the beginnings of the zombie-pocalypse.
5
The Royal Tenenbaums 2002,  R)
The Royal Tenenbaums
My fave Wes Anderson pic. The entire cast shines ( Stiller is so good it's scary ! ) in what seems like a film based on the J D Salinger book that Salinger never wrote. Great soundtrack too.
6
Dawn of the Dead 1978,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
One of those rare examples of a sequel living up to the original. Gory fun and thrills when zombies go mall walking. Talented cast of no-namers add to the realistic feel started in the original NOLD
7
Ghostbusters 1984,  PG)
Ghostbusters
Spooky fun -- Hip and funny. A great cast, hilarious script and top of the line ( for the time ) effects make this the best supernatural comedy ever.
8
Day of the Dead 1985,  Unrated)
Day of the Dead
The weak sister of Romero's "Dead" trilogy ( one had to be the worst ) lacks the scale of the first two. Budgetary reasons limited the majority of filming to an underground bunker and the menu ... sorry, cast to a few claustrophobic scientists and climbin' the walls soldiers. Compared to them, 'Bub" seems like the normal one.
9
RoboCop 1987,  R)
RoboCop
I'd like this just for the great action sequences, even if it weren't a smart, cynical social satire as well. Excellent performances by Weller and all the bad guys, great effects and use of locations.
10
Raising Arizona 1987,  PG-13)
Raising Arizona
Perhaps my favorite Coen Brothers movie. Sweet, twisted story, great performances all around.
11
The Evil Dead 1981,  R)
The Evil Dead
Kind of standard for the "spooky cabin in the woods" genre but Campbell's presence definitely makes it worth seeing. Also rare in that the first film in a trilogy is the weakest.
12
School of Rock 2003,  PG-13)
School of Rock
Very funny & entertaining -- a movie for all ages in the best sense of the phrase. Probably Jack Black's best performance in his best role.
13
Bringing Up Baby 1938,  Unrated)
14
Groundhog Day 1993,  PG)
Groundhog Day
A modern classic. Murray is great and the concept is a lot of fun
15
Out of Sight 1998,  R)
Out of Sight
Everyone in this movie ( and Soderburgh as well ) is at the top of their game. Stylish, smart, funny, and suspenseful
