nice film, love george clooney here, a not so serious type of character (danny ocean) but i have to give credit for andy garcia too....he is really a great actor.
NOTE: i never seen the sinatra version, so i can't compare the two films...peace!!!!
Alice Hoffman's book translates well into this 1998 feature directed by Griffin Dunne. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman do a great job, but the few scenes in which Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest appear are excellent.
I especially loved the element of family unity that prevails throughout the story. Cursed they may be, but the Owens women are very supportive and close. Also wonderful was the fact that the very thing that saved Maria Owens from hanging - magic - becomes the healing factor that saves Jillian in the end bonded with the power of family and community. Good lessons abound.
I enjoy most comedies. When I feel stressed, depressed -- or good, for that matter -- I like to watch funny movies.
And this one was a lot of fun to watch. It was a real mystery -- they're trying to find and stop a killer who is threatening a beauty pageant. Sandra Bullock's character, a dedicated but bumbling FBI agent, is sent in to solve the case. And her "cover" is to be Miss New Jersey. All of her adventures and mishaps come together to find the person who wants to blow up the pageant.
I doubt that you'll find any deep, philosophical messages in this movie. But if you want a lot of laughs and fun, this movie is for you. It's a part made to order for Sandra Bullock, whose comedy talent I admire greatly.
Agent Gracie Hart is back again only this time she's not meant to do any undercover operations after her cover was blown by an adoring fan. So, with her reputation as an agent on the down and her fame on the up, Gracie is set up as a representative of the U.S police, that's all very well until her friend, and last years Miss America, is kiddnapped along with the pagent host.
Against all odds, and rules, Hart goes off on an other police operation.
This is a hilariously well acted film, matching well up to the standards set by it's predecessor.
