One of the few genuine film masterpieces of this century. A movie about dignity, about going down with a fight, about that last act of heroism before you snuff it that means nobody can say it was all for nothing - and a movie which also happens to feature an aging Elvis and a black JFK fighting a mummy which sucks people's souls out of their arseholes. If that doesn't sound to you like the greatest storyline in the world then you're an idiot. Set in a miserable, grimy old folks home this is a movie steeped in regret, but filled with minor triumphs which stay with you long after the credits have rolled. Seeing this at midnight on a Saturday night, at a one-off showing at my local cinema, was one of the greatest experiences of my life. |
