1
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Amazing! Beginning of an epic! By far the greatest theater experience of my life...
2
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
3
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Extremely emotional, beautiful, powerful way to end the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Just very long.
4
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 1983,  PG)
5
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
I remember the first time I watched this... wow.
6
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
I don't like it as much as IV and VI, but I've realize that it's just because it's so sad, not because of any flaw in the movie-making...
7
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith 2005,  PG-13)
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Hayden Christensen didn't make me gag quite as much in this one as in the previous Star Wars episode. It was really the acting of Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman, and the score and storyline that made me enjoy this movie.
8
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 1999,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
You kinda have to make allowances for the different take on Star Wars to enjoy this... but I thought it was well-done, albeit different from the originals. Liam Neeson was amazing, and, I actually kinda liked Jar-jar... so shoot me. Darth maul reminded me of Eminem in makeup, but his stunts were pretty awesome...
9
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 2003,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
This is just a really fun, clever movie, and very exciting. Johnny Depp is a riot, and watching this movie will definitely bring out your piratey side, if indeed you have one. It's really about much more than just the ride at Disney World...
10
The Princess Bride 1987,  PG)
The Princess Bride
Pretty much the greatest cult comedy ever made...
11
Singin' in the Rain 1952,  G)
Singin' in the Rain
One of my favorite musicals of all time... deliciously witty and satirical, and yet it has so much heart. The dances are amazing, and I even love the whole Broadway interlude in the middle.
12
Beauty and the Beast 1991,  G)
Beauty and the Beast
This is probably the greatest Disney movie of all time. So much emotion and depth, and yet none of it feels contrived. There is humility and truth amongst the beauty, which stands out from many of the other prince-charming-based movies.
13
Monkey Business 1931,  Unrated)
Monkey Business
Never mind that there's no plot until the last 20 minutes. The Bros are so good they don't even NEED one. The bits with Groucho and Thelma Todd are wonderful - so detached and yet so ahead of their time... The part when they exit the boat is one of my favorite Marx scenes ever...
14
Spider-Man 2 2004,  PG-13)
15
Shrek 2 2004,  PG)
Shrek 2
Wow, a sequel that didn't flop. I may have even enjoyed this movie more than the first one. It was incredibly funny, the plot wasn't too weird for me, and the new supporting characters were wonderful. Antonia Banderas was so-so - I don't know if he quite fit with the rest of the cast. Still, great movie - can't wait for 3.
16
Shrek 2001,  PG)
17
Animal Crackers 1930,  G)
Animal Crackers
One of the Marx brothers' funniest - random madness, music, and very clever lines.
18
Cinderella Man 2005,  PG-13)
Cinderella Man
One of the best theater experiences I've had - I was still shaking on the drive home. The tension wasn't because I didn't know what was going to happen, but because the story is so powerful that you just feel every pulse of it. And I'm not even a boxing fan...
19
Fiddler on the Roof 1971,  G)
Fiddler on the Roof
They just don't make movies like this anymore.
20
Duck Soup 1933,  Unrated)
Duck Soup
Hilarious political satire, that is still strangely relevant.
21
Double Indemnity 1944,  Unrated)
22
Finding Neverland 2004,  PG)
Finding Neverland
One of my favorite Johnny Depp movies - I really wasn't sure how well he would fit this character, but I shouldn't have doubted because he was perfect for the role. I also love the way the film captures the feeling without being sappy or overly dramatic, and makes that shift between reality and fantasy at the end.
23
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Oh Heath Ledger... what an amazing job...
24
Casablanca 1942,  PG)
25
Galaxy Quest 1999,  PG)
Galaxy Quest
Hilarious, even if you aren't a star trek fan.
26
The Incredibles 2004,  PG)
The Incredibles
Pixar does it again! I enjoyed this movie even more than Finding Nemo. It's obvious from watching it that a lot of time and thought was put into the script and the effects - it's not just some generic action flick. Very clever, but also sentimental about family life, without being too mushy.
27
It's a Wonderful Life 1946,  G)
It's a Wonderful Life
One of the few movies that I think everyone should see.
28
A Night at the Opera 1935,  Unrated)
A Night at the Opera
The greatest of the Marx brothers' movies - hilarious.
29
The Prestige 2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
One of the best movies I've seen in a while. I honestly can't find anything not to like about it. I love how it requires thought from the viewer, and plays with your assumptions all the way through. Michael Caine's narration is perfect, and the rest of the acting, cinematography, and plot is top-notch as well.
30
Jurassic Park 1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
I was so scared when I watched this as a kid... I still consider it a great sci-fi story.
31
K-19: The Widowmaker 2002,  PG-13)
K-19: The Widowmaker
This is a very thorough, powerful, and moving story. Great acting, and a wonderfully developed narrative.
32
Laura 1944,  Unrated)
Laura
I don't only like this movie because it's my name - it's a great mystery of a film noir as well.
33
The Lion King 1994,  G)
34
Meet Me In St. Louis 1944,  Unrated)
Meet Me In St. Louis
A classic tale of sisterly ties, and romantic attachments - and music.
35
Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1974,  PG)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
This is probably the absurdest thing I've ever seen or heard, which is why it's so awesome. A bunch of comically pansy Brits mocking their own history like this is just too classic.
36
National Treasure 2004,  PG)
37
Reign Over Me 2007,  R)
Reign Over Me
Excellent. Sad, and painful at times, but awesome movie - Adam Sandler is amazing.
38
Some Like It Hot 1959,  Unrated)
39
WALL-E 2008,  G)
40
The Sound of Music 1965,  G)
The Sound of Music
One of the greatest movies ever made, without a doubt.
41
Spider-Man 2002,  PG-13)
Spider-Man
I wasn't a fan of superheroes until I saw this movie. Spider-man just embodies everything a hero is, and he does it with style. Awesome effects and storyline, and I loved the romantic aspect as well...
42
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
43
Secret Window 2004,  PG-13)
44
Signs 2002,  PG-13)
45
V for Vendetta 2006,  R)
46
The Village 2004,  PG-13)
The Village
So many people don't like this film, but it was my first taste of Shyamalan so I wasn't biased by expectations. I thought it was beautiful all the way through. It was so much more than just a clever thriller - the whole atmosphere that Shyamalan captures here is haunting and believable. Even after the twist, I felt the plot survived because the characters and environment were so strong. Oh, and it's very scary - great job there too.
47
Walk the Line 2005,  PG-13)
Walk the Line
SO good
48
Red Eye 2005,  PG-13)
Red Eye
I love the whole anti-romance at play here, because it's not quite what you expect.
