Suspiria
One of the last movies filmed in technicolor and oh boy does it do the medium justice. Not to mention that this is by far (imho) Dario Argento's crowning acheivement.
Easily in n my top 5 of favorite horror, if not #1.

The Shining 1980,  R)

The Thing
Call it blasphemy, but I think this is Carpenter's best work. After 20 years this movie still holds up.
Nothing says isolation and helplessness more than being stuck out in the middle of the Antarctic. Add an alien life form that is able to shape-shift into any form and you've got some serious paranoia issues. I'm not a big Kurt Russel fan (I call him "baby-head".. because his head resembles a giant infant's) but he is perfect for the lead in this film and I honestly can't think of anyone else I'd have rather seen in it. The camera-work is brilliant. This is the Carpenter who is worth the hype and reputation. It penetrates you emotionally and remains visually stunning throughout.
Not to mention the liberal use of flamethrowers which is a personal favorite of mine as far as weapons go.
One of my favorite (and best) horror flicks EVER.

Blue Velvet
My favorite Lynch movie, and I'm a big fan of his work.
It starts off normal enough with a young handsome devil of a guy (Kyle MacLachlan) strolling through a picturesque small town. But don't get too comfy.. you're very quickly reminded, "Oh yeah, this is a Lynch film." when he finds a severed ear in a field.
This leads to all sorts of wackiness such as Dennis Hopper sucking on nitrous and getting off on a piece of blue velvet shoved into a vagina, Dean Stockwell (yes, the Quantum Leap guy) with a full face of makeup playing a queer, and Isabella Rossellini wandering the neighborhood nekkid and mumbling something about having our male lead's disease still inside of her.
In other words.. this movie RULES!

Of course there are some deeper themes here such as the evils of society that lurk just beneath the seemingly innocent surface, but we don't need to even go there right now.

One of my fav movies... ever.

"Heineken!!?? Fuck that shit! PAPS BLUE RIBBON!!"

To this day I still want an occult shop like the one Ray Stantz works at in this movie.
The sad part is I'm not kidding.
This movie can pretty much be held accountable for my lifelong obsession with the occult and the paranormal.
Plus it rules. Giant marshmallow man for christ's sake...

I can't believe how often I hum these songs in my head! Haha!
If you're a huge fan of Parker and Stone there's no way you can't like this movie.
Cool tidbit:
Troma was the only company that would release it back in 96' and for that reason, Parker and Stone have let Troma keep the rights to it despite many huge offers from bigger companies.

The Devil's Rejects
Some people say this movie is so full of so many cliche's and homages to 70's slasher flicks that it's unbearable to watch. I think that's what makes it a joy to watch. It's completely over the top and packed full of witty one-liners and damn funny dialogue from our deranged cast of characters. Although I laughed along with our killers through most scenes, some are actually quite disturbing.
William Forsythe and Karen Black absolutely steal the show in my opinion. They are a pleasure to watch.
This and House of 1,000 Corpses were exactly what I expected from Rob Zombie. I was not disappointed.

I like sick shit. This hit the spot.
25
Drugstore Cowboy 1989,  R)
Drugstore Cowboy
The most realistic portrayal of drug addiction I've ever seen on film. Matt Dillon gives a thoroughly believable performance as Bob, leader of a crew of dope fiends who rob pharmacies to support their habit. You even get a nice cameo by Mr. Unrepentant Drug User himself, William S. Burroughs. Dilaudid and cocaine and methadone, oh my!

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975,  R)

Save The Green Planet
This is one of the most creative movies I've seen in a long time. Somehow it manages to span every genre from comedy to sci-fi to horror and even romance. The cast of characters are interesting and complex and the dialogue is super witty and often hysterical. The plot, though simple enough, keeps you on your toes and guessing until the end. And wow, when that end comes either your jaw will be on the floor or you'll be laughing out loud at it's absolute absurdity. This movie was a lot of fun to watch.
