Shaun of the Dead 2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
A masterful homage to the Romero zombie movie mixed with the perfect amount of humor. These guys are fans first and it showed!!!
2
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
Tarantino revolutionizes the genre! The 1st movie of his I saw in the theatre and I've been hooked ever since.
3
Reservoir Dogs 1992,  R)
Reservoir Dogs
Often imitated, this is the ultimate heist/aftermath film (because the heist itself is barely a blip of the film). It's truly the interaction among thieves that makes this movie. The story is fantastic and the soundtrack is a perfect fit. Top notch Tarantino!
4
Rounders 1998,  R)
Rounders
Matt Damon, John Malkovich, and Edward Norton play their parts wonderfully in this tale of friendship and fitting into the norm and playing it safe vs. doing what makes you happy. No Limit Texas Hold Em Poker scenes are great. I find myself watching it every time it is on even though I own it.
5
The Princess Bride 1987,  PG)
The Princess Bride
Just plain fun, a fairy tale for adults..."As you wiiiiiiiiish!"
6
True Romance 1993,  R)
True Romance
This is 1 of those movies I can just watch anytime. Written by Tarantino, it is everything I could hope for in a love story with action and humor. Has a great cast and is 1 of my all time faves!
7
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
My mind is still racing trying to wrap itself completely around all that happened in this film. That's what this is by the way, a serious film that Nolan has moved beyond being a "comic book movie". Take away the costumes and you could forget this is based on a comic book. This could be a new generation's Godfather, or Citizen Kane, a film that tansends the others of the genre. It reminds me most of Heat. Now it is not perfect by any means but it is revolutionary in it's approach. The faults are small... the raspy voice Bale uses for Batman is even more gravely than ever, Maggie Gyllenhaal is forgetable, Alfred the butler has too much familiararity at times, fight scenes are good, but only good because they are there to advance the story not to take center stage. This is a study in the dichotomy of humans, the good vs evil in every man. The "what would you do if...." *spoiler* The few that didn't like this are complaining that the Joker wasn't ever givin a motive for his actions and even my son mentioned this.... but he just is. Stephen King said in a recent article that the scariest villians are those who do what they do for no real reason. That is this Joker. Psychotic and sadistic because he can be. Ok so that brings us to Ledger. I was worried that beacause of his death that his performance was overblown and maybe it is a bit. But one thing I will say is that I forgot about all of that and forgot that he even was The Joker for most of the time. That doesn't happen often that I see the character and not the actor portraying him so it really is amazing. The makeup work was fantastic and parts of the story were very unexpected. There are some very cool action scenes and it does inject some dark humor which I appreciated. I need to see this again to fully take away all that there is in it and I am looking forward to doing so again!

Iron Man 2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
This movie was freakin sweeeeeeeet! It now rivals Spiderman 2, Batman Begins, and Sin City as my favorite comic book movie of all time! When I first heard Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark, I was hesitant but as the movie drew nearer I thought maybe.... Well, he nailed it!!! Jeff Bridges was perfect as Obadiah Stane and it took a double take to recognize him in the role. Stark's humanity and motives are well done. Jon Favreau updates the story nicely and injects a fairly cheeky sense of humor and a few nods to us fanboys. Lots of big booms cement it as a true summer blockbuster!
9
Batman Begins 2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
Definitely at the tops of my favorite comic book movies. I liked the look of Gotham and the style used in the Tim Burton films, but I love that this is a serious look at The Bat. Christian Bale does well and Cillian Murphy is fantastic as The Scarecrow.

28
28 Days Later 2002,  R)
28 Days Later
The very starkness of an empty London is eerie in itself...now throw in very fast zombies. Superb!
29
Dead Alive (Braindead) 1992,  R)
Dead Alive (Braindead)
The ultimate horror b-movie. Don't watch if you are looking for a slick effects, but bad dialogue and overall cheesiness add to the fun for me when well done. This is Peter Jackson's start and totally demented!

48
Seven (Se7en) 1995,  R)

More thriller than horror, it's a great movie. Nice twist, suprises throughout, signature David Fincher movie. The ending is... unbelievable the 1st time you see it.
49
American History X 1998,  R)
American History X
Realistic and powerful with just fantastic acting by Edward Norton and Edward Furlong. Very believable.
50
Fargo 1996,  R)
Fargo
Completely original and hilariously dark and twisted, this is the Coen brothers best film by far. The characters are well developed and the plot is thoughtfully handled with a unique style. Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi and William H. Macy are excellent. I think I'll watch this again soon. It's kinda funny looking!
51
The Crow 1994,  R)
The Crow
Great freakin movie. Somber yet fun. Well thought out. Faithful adaptation of graphic novel. RIP Brandon.
