My Favorite Movies

  Neota's Rating My Rating
1
Aladdin 1992,  G)
Aladdin
Gotta be the best Disney animation!
2
The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse 2005,  R)
The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse
I know some people slated the film, saying it wasn't a wise move to make, but I think it is genius, the writing is great as always with the League, and kudos to the producer who had to schedule the shooting as it must have been a nightmare! One of my favourite films ever!
3
The Science of Sleep 2006,  R)
The Science of Sleep
The single most beautiful film I have ever seen. I think it's my new favourite. It's just amazing, the acting is superb, the narrative is wonderfully twisted yet romantic. I just love this film.
4
Requiem for a Dream 2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
Most definitely one of my favourite films. It's not only the story, but the way it is told that makes it an incredible film. Clint Mansell's soundtrack is beautiful. You go through all the emotions with the characters of being happy, depressed, scared, paranoid and desperate. It's just a really really beautiful film.
5
Confetti 2005,  R)
Confetti
One of the best films I've seen in a long time. I love the British (and American/Canadian) actors and comedians in it, and it's such a great idea for a movie! Top notch British comedy at its best.
6
Big Fish 2004,  PG-13)
Big Fish
You either love it or hate it. And I LOVE it! Not the sort of thing we're used to seeing from Tim Burton, but definitely a masterpiece of a film. Ewan McGregor is one of my favourite actors and he is as good in this as he is in Moulin Rouge (even without the singing!)
7
Shaun of the Dead 2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
If you haven't seen this you must have been in hiding for the last few years. It is, in my eyes, a cult film. Students plaster the poster on their walls, and every comedy fan in Britain has seen it (I would hope). It is one of the funniest films ever made. A definite favourite of mine.
8
Moulin Rouge! 2001,  PG-13)
Moulin Rouge!
For when I want a bit of a musical, I don't go for that Grease nonsense, I watch Moulin Rouge. Tear jerker, laughter inducing, all singing, all dancing, Ewan McGregor - I couldn't ask for more.
9
The Nightmare Before Christmas 1993,  PG)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Tim Burton does wonders with stop motion animation, creating an unforgettable cult Christmas tale.
10
Donnie Darko 2001,  R)
Donnie Darko
I didn't really get exactly what was going on, but I loved in anyway in a sort of 'this is freaky-ass but I'm compelled to continue watching' way. And I'm in love with Jake Gyllenhaal.
11
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 2003,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Johnny Depp as pirate Captain Jack Sparrow with a strange cockney accent and a million one liners and Orlando Bloom with long hair a hat with a feather in it. Need I say more?
12
The Life and Death of Peter Sellers 2004,  Unrated)
The Life and Death of Peter Sellers
A British made film, Geoffery Rush (also known as Captain Barbosa) stars as legendary comedy actor Peter Sellers. The film tries to uncover the real man behind his facade of hundreds of characters. A moving and interesting film, with great performances from supporting actors Stephen Fry, Charlize Theron and Miriam Margoyles. It reminds me a bit of Eternal Sunshine, because sometimes things you think are real aren't, and Rush performs as all the supporting characters at various points throughout the film. I love it.
13
American Beauty 1999,  R)
American Beauty
Sam Mendes uses red throughout the film to suggest danger, love, passion and sex. A truly beautiful film.
14
Tim Burton's Corpse Bride 2005,  PG)
Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Reminisant of 'A Nightmare Before Christmas', Tim Burton makes his wife Helena Bonham Carter, and Johnny Depp, into tall lanky model versions of themselves. Again, Johnny Depp with a London accent is worth watching it for!
15
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 1971,  G)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
I've put it one place and half a star above its 2005 remake, purely because this was the original, everything was real, and even though I love Depp's Willy Wonka, Gene Wilder reminds me more of how he looked in my head when I read the book.
16
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 2005,  PG)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Letting Tim Burton loose on Willy Wonka transformed him from a lovable slightly older man, to a malicious character who looks capable of murder. Oh, how I love it so.
17
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 2005,  PG)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Adaptation of the 1970s/80s TV series, this goes all out loopy on you, and with Martin Freeman (Office funnyman), you can't go much wrong.
18
Green Street Hooligans 2005,  R)
Green Street Hooligans
As a Brit, I was suspicious as to how this film would work - but it really did, and I thought it brought home some ideas that haven't been explored in movie format previously. Elijah Wood plays someone completely different from any other character he's played. Outstanding performances from all the cast.
19
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
The best of all three, the sequels just went downhill. Everything about this is high quality, slick, and looks amazing. Plus, I'll have a bit of Keanu Reeves in leather and sunglasses any day.
20
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The conclusion to the story is moving and because it's not just all battle sequences, I like it more than the second and even the first one.
21
Finding Neverland 2004,  PG)
Finding Neverland
The end gets me going everytime!
22
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe 2005,  PG)
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
The animation is incredible and the world is really brought to life.
23
Beauty and the Beast 1991,  G)
Beauty and the Beast
My second favourite Disney animation. I love the film, and the live show. Good music and just generally a nice princess film.
24
Cry-Baby 1990,  PG-13)
Cry-Baby
A very American film, with musical moments throughout. Johnny Depp with that hair just does it for me :P
25
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The first in the trilogy, I remember the first time I watched it, and thinking 'Hey, they've not done a bad job.'
26
Blow 2001,  R)
Blow
A complicated but moving plot to follow.
27
Aladdin 1990,  G)
28
Edward Scissorhands 1990,  PG-13)
Edward Scissorhands
One of my favourites of all time. A beautiful, sweet story. Johnny Depp is amazing in it.
29
Garden State 2004,  R)
Garden State
One of my favourite films of all time. Zach Braff did himself proud with this beautiful masterpiece. Quirky and moving, but with a good narrative, this has got to be one of my all time favourites.
30
Ed Wood 1994,  R)
Ed Wood
What an incredible film. An unusual choice and style for director Tim Burton, but all the same he does a good job at portraying how horrifyingly awful Ed Wood was at making films! And it's hilarious! Beware, Johnny Depp dons a dress and heels. It's disturbing.
31
The History Boys 2006,  R)
The History Boys
I don't know who would pick up this film and say 'Hey I want to watch this' but once you've started you can't stop. If you've seen the stage version then no doubt you'd love this, and if you haven't then the extras will make you want to go and see it. It sounds like it's based all around education, which you might think of as boring, but believe me, it isn't!
32
Sin City 2005,  R)
Sin City
I thought the way this was filmed was groundbreaking. I didn't like the gore and some of the extreme violence made me feel a bit sick!!!! But what a fantastic adaptation - just like the comics. Frank Miller had a good team working for him.
33
Juno 2007,  PG-13)
Juno
Amazing. If you liked Superbad and Knocked Up then you'll like this. It's cute, subtly funny, and both Cera and Page are fantastic.
34
Across the Universe 2007,  PG-13)
35
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
One of the most eclectic, mind boggling, thought provoking films I've seen in a long time. Jim Carey does himself proud in a serious acting role.
