My Dinner with André 1981,  PG)
My Dinner with André
One of the few movies driven almost entirely by dialogue. This is an amazing conversation.
2
The Gods Must Be Crazy 1981,  PG)
The Gods Must Be Crazy
It is hard for me to watch stumble-bums, but the perspective it gives to children is beautiful. Definite recommendation for kids.
3
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? 1966,  R)
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
A little too true a story of the days before socially acceptable divorce.
4
Raising Arizona 1987,  PG-13)
Raising Arizona
What is funnier than trailer trash using sophisticated language?
5
Swimming To Cambodia 1987,  Unrated)
Swimming To Cambodia
I enjoy honesty. The perspective of vagabonds, poets and comedians are interesting to me. This is another bit-too-honest, classic. . .in my book.
6
The Killing Fields 1984,  R)
The Killing Fields
What is scarier than a 14 year old gang member with a gun? Seven year olds given supreme authority as "truth-seers" authorized, if not ordered, by the government to kill non-cooperative citizens.
7
Run Lola Run (Lola rennt) 1998,  R)
Run Lola Run (Lola rennt)
This is just visually appealing and scored almost like a music video. I like that it could go one of three ways based on seemingly insignificant details.
8
Night of the Living Dead 1968,  R)
Night of the Living Dead
I waited so long to see this because I thought it would be cheesy and dumb, but I found a very intelligent work. In 1963 a black man in the lead role was noteworthy. The script lived up to that level of notoriety. Truly a classic.
9
Masked And Anonymous 2003,  PG-13)
Masked And Anonymous
An excellent portrayal of the chaos of prolonged civil war. Fine actors/actresses. Great acting and music. Little things here and there glare at me. . .not everyone rocks in consistent ways on the bus? but I forgive them for the depth and complexity of the story line.
