Donnie Darko
I watched this last night and found it so weird it was actually addictive. Some of the no-sound visual camera work through the school and focusing in on the characters I thought was particularly excellent. Its a creepy film no doubt about it, no horror but by the end leaves you wondering whether you really understood it...
5
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
6
Nixon 1995,  R)
Nixon
Anthony Hopkins as well as Joan Allen and James Woods put in extremely strong performances in this political thriller which gives a very up close insight into President Nixon. Although its all dialog, very little action, the progressive story, scandal revelations and build up to the ultimate resignation of the Nixon keep you gripped. After seeing the man in all emotions from happiness to love to fear to dispair the end of the movie, notably the resignation speech is much more emotionally engaging and you feel much more of a connection with the main actor than in any polical movie I've seen previously.
7
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
I think most people will agree, despite any views of the Matrix 2 and 3, that the Matrix was a landmark film that introduced amazing sci fi effects including bullet time and that still looks so good today. A quality action sci fi film you can watch over and over again - a all time great.
8
The Departed 2006,  R)
9
Lucky Number Slevin 2006,  R)

Layer Cake 2004,  R)
Layer Cake
A highly entertaining movie which several twists and turns and quite an unexpected end.. Daniel Craig delivers yet again.
11
Unbreakable 2000,  PG-13)
Unbreakable
Very strange, tense and creepy thriller that keeps you gripped till the end.
