Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) 1997,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella)
An amazing script lead to this Italian film that delicatly balances humor, love and drama into one of the most amazing films ever made. Robero Benigni was perfectly cast as the lead character who protects his son by finding a glimmer of humor in racism. The boy and his parents end up in a Nazi concentration camp and survive by playing their own game.

The Inspector General 1949,  Unrated)
The Inspector General
Danny Kayes greatest comic performance. After being a disaster of an assistant to a gypsy hoaxing people into buying fake elixer, Georgi (Kaye) is set off on his own and mistakenly thought to be the Inspector General. Fearing for their lives, the towns politicians scramble to cover up evidence and offer every accomodation to the thought to be Inspector. On the other side Georgi fears for his life and tries to excape from the town.
3
Minority Report 2002,  PG-13)
Minority Report
This film and ET are Speilbergs best scifi films. The futuristic concepts laced throughout this film are amazingly placed as background elements that don't overstep the actual police chase story that is really at the root of this film. This is absolutly one of my favorite films! I rmember Roger Ebert commenting that year that this was his pic as the best picture of the year.
4
Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime) 1999,  PG-13)
Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime)
One of the best animated films ever made. The story, script, characters and animation are all done very well. The film begins when villager San is infected by a demon pig. He willingly leaves the village at his elders request and begins his journey to uncover what is at the root of the pigs infection. He soon encounters Princess Mononoke, now a part of the wolf clan and a coal factory nearby that she and the wolf clan mean and other clans in the forest mean to distroy. The film caries an underlying theme to preserve nature and the environment.
5
Young Frankenstein 1974,  PG)
Young Frankenstein
I consider this to be Mel Brooks best film. This was the first film (maybe the only film) that Mel Brooks ever directed that was initially written by another author--Gene Wilder and of course based on the real book Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. The screen play is really a colaboration between Wilder and Brooks. This film has one of the best casts ever assembled. Madeline Kahn and Chloris Leachman add comic timing and character that are amazingly unique. You can tell that everybody had a lot of fun on this film.

Alice in Wonderland 1951,  G)
Alice in Wonderland
This film always calms me down and lifts my spirits up whenever I'm feeling a bit down. I love the nonsensical world that this film incorporates. If you like this film then you should also see the more recent Japaneese animated film Spirited Away.
7
The Girl of the Golden West 1938,  Unrated)
8
The Truman Show 1998,  PG)
9
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
I consider this film the best film of the original Star Wars trilogy. Audiences were in for several surprises in this film which changed some things in the original film. The film succeeds in building the relationships of the original casts and introduces some new characters to the universe.

The Student Prince 1954,  G)
The Student Prince
A fantastic operetta that leaves out the Hollywood ending. Prince Karl takes a break away from his life as a prince to experience life among the students of the University of Heidelberg and in the process learns to become more humble, laugh, build friendships and of course falls in love with a common bar maid. The kings horrible acting skills in sections has always bothered me in this film and the directors lack of recognizing that.
11
The King and I 1956,  G)
The King and I
One of Rogers & Hammersteins best musicals and films. I love the setting, the cast, sets, costumes and music. This is one of several Rogers & Hammersteins musicals that placed a multi-racial couple together on screen which was considered a little controversal at the time--even though Yul Brynner isn't really Asian.

The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951,  G)
The Day the Earth Stood Still
This film had a lasting impression on me growing up. I had always wanted to see it again and it was just as good years later. An alian being spends some time learning about Earth, complements human kind for its potential and warns the planet for its tendency of walking the line toward self distruction.

The Three Caballeros 1944,  G)
18
Matilda 1996,  PG)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
LOTR: The Return of the King didn't win the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Music Score for nothing. All three films are equally amazing and the awards that the acadamy presented to the films crew for Return of the King were really set aside from the previous two films with caution and were than presented when it was clear that the whole work was so expertly done. I'm sure that few would disagree. The Two Towers introduced the Ents which were my biggest fear in how these would come accross on film. Amazing!
