My Favorite Movies
Favorite Movies are difficult for me to choose...to me a favorite movie is one I can watch over and over and still smile, laugh, cry, or be encouraged and amazed and not get tired of the film. But there are so many that I LOVE! This list represents an overview..there are MANY more that I have put under my other 5 star movie lists. I would add The Thornbirds but Flixster won't add it because it was a Mini Series :(

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001, PG-13)
A troop of nine very different and appealing peoples, 2 Men, 4 Hobbits, a Wizard, a Dwarf and an Elf are chosen and come together... this tells the story of part of their long journey to take a powerful and evilly controlled Ring to a mountain to be destroyed. This is not the genre I normally get into, a very mythic tale, but I did read the book in school so I thought I would give the movie a shot, and WOW, I'm so glad I did!! It drew me in and now it is one of my favorite movies! The characters are SO compelling, the acting is great, the musical score is fabulous, the cinematography breathtaking, and the story just won my heart! Not to mention one of the best LOVE stories ever!! The second and third installments continue the saga of the friends and the Ring. I love the whole trilogy and I own all the extended versions. Now I can't wait for the next installment, The Hobbit!! On "My Favorite Movies" & "My 5 Star Action/Adventures" lists. DVD. |

Dances With Wolves 1990, PG-13)
What a masterpiece! The first time viewing this movie I was blown away by this totally intriguing story and cinematography! Costner and the rest of the actors are perfect! The war, the west, the Indians, the scenery..everything is perfect and very moving. Beautifully shot with such an emotional pull. I love the interaction of Costner, a Civil War Lieutenant and the Indian people.... their way of trying to communicate with one another and the friendship they create is wonderfully enjoyable! On "My Favorite Movies", "My 5 Star War Movies" & "My 5 Star Westerns" lists. Blu-ray. |

Forrest Gump 1994, PG-13)
This is awesome! Totally unique and wonderful story with blasts from the past which include the insertion of real film clips. Every time I watch this my appreciation for it grows...the messages of acceptance, unconditional love, respect of God, country and authority makes me happy. Tom Hanks is amazing and adorable as the low IQed, kind, naive Gump..thanks to his encouraging Mama who refuses to let her son's handicaps hold him back. This is done with great lessons and humor. Gary Sinise, Robin Wright & Sally Field also give terrific performances in this amazing film which has many great quotes still repeated today...this is a must see! On "My Favorite Movies" & "My 5 Star Dramas" list. DVD. |

Charade 1963, G)
What a great movie and one of my FAVES! I love the scene in the stamp market...so cool! Ever since I saw this as a child I was intrigued, and it hasn't lost it's attraction at all. The two lead stars immediately have a fun relationship, "How do you shave in there?" Audrey Hepburn quips to Cary Grant about the dimple in his chin, this movie is full of clever dialogue, espionage, suspense, comedy & romance. All the actors as their respective characters are awesome and gruesome...Coburn, Kennedy, Matthau and more...this is SO very Classic and Classy...gotta see it! In fact, with all that said, I think I need to watch it AGAIN! |

This a a beautiful story and I absolutely love it!! The black & white cinematography is very riveting & appealing as well as the characters all perfectly cast. Sidney Poitier is a master in these kinds of dramas and does not disappoint! I watched it again today and for me it is a timeless movie of prejudice, compassion, justice, love and acceptance...one of my favorite movies and a must see! I was fortunate to recently purchase this on DVD because it has been discontinued! On "My Favorite Movies" list. DVD. |

A suburban street where the neighbors notice a very strange family who move in next door...they begin talking about what these new neighbors are actually doing when they hear strange noises and see weird behavior. Then the spying begins and the fun as well!! Tom, Bruce, Corey, they are all great!! They crack Me up!! Funny Girl 1968, G)
Barbra Streisand is fabulous as real life character Fanny Brice, a 1920's Ziegfield star. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST! The musical numbers are wonderful, Barbra and Omar Sharif are perfectly cast! Clever, dramatic, romantic, funny, bittersweet story--just awesome...I'm not gonna lie to ya! On "My Favorite Movies" & "My 5 Star Music Movies" lists. DVD. |

Only You 1994, PG)
I just LOVE this movie because it is SO Romantic...and Funny! Robert Downey Jr. and Marissa Tomei are the perfect pair who meet in beautiful Italy. She is there, along with her sis-in-law, looking for her true love/soul mate which was spelled out on a Ouija Board when she was a young teen. Downey's character makes her believe it is him and when she finds out it's not true, the fun continues! All the actors in this are GREAT....Fisher Stevens cracks me up as Tomei's brother and Bonnie Hunt's Brooklyn accented husband. Billy Zane plays quite the character as well!! This movie makes me smile and laugh and go awwwwww.... On "My Favorite Movies" & "My 5 Star Chick Flicks" lists. DVD. |

Field of Dreams 1989, PG)
"If you build it, he will come." This is such a great movie, I love the All American feel! Kevin Costner, whom I love, definitely wins you over in this fantasy/comedy. He starts hearing a voice in the cornfields and begins an adventure to ultimately fulfill his dream...I won't say what that is in case you haven't seen it :) James Earl Jones is awesome as the 1960's author that he teams up with. And if you do or don't like baseball, I think you will still like this.... I LOVE IT!! On "My 5 Star Dramas", "I Cry Everytime", & "Into Sports" lists. DVD. |

Circle of Friends 1995, PG-13)
This story happens to take place in 1957, the year I was born, but in Ireland :)......I don't know if the year has anything to do with it, but I just fell in love with this movie! Minnie Driver is great and she makes a cute couple with Chris O'Donnell.....then there's Colin Firth as a slimeball and Alan Cummings is a leche! But all in all.....it's a very sweet love story that teaches that you should be willing to wait for the one you love. I could watch this over and over! On "My Favorite Movies" & "My 5 Star Chick Flicks" lists. DVD. |

Wonder Man 1945, G)
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I Loved it as a kid and I never get tired of it. Danny Kaye is hilarious and great in it! The songs and performances are top-notch... It's kind of a fantasy about twin brothers that are total opposites. The nightclub singer brother gets killed and then as a ghost begins to contact his bookworm brother--it makes for a lot of zany fun! "Is this the bus to potato salad?" :D On "My Favorite Movies" & "My 5 Star Funnies" lists. VHS. |

Pillow Talk 1959, Unrated)
So funny, silly & sweet....perfection! About a "Party Line"...anyone remember those?? It was when you shared a phoneline and had to work out a schedule of talk times or some such thing...anyway Rock Hudson and Doris Day are wonderful together in this funny cute comedy and happen to be the two who share a phoneline....he is a playboy and she is a good girl and oh the FUN this has in it when she hears his conversations with all the girls!! He sees her in person without her knowing it, and seeing she's a knockout decides to pretend to be a sweet downhome boy to get her up to his mountain cabin. Tony Randall is also perfect as the friend. One of my all time faves! On "My Favorite Movies", "My 5 Star Chick Flicks" & "My 5 Star Funnies" lists. DVD. |

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002, PG-13)
FABULOUS! The continuing story of among others, Hobbits, Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee, as they continue the quest to be rid of the evil ring and save Middle Earth. I think all three of The Lord of The Ring's movies are spectacular and I wrote a more complete review on the first installment-The Fellowship of the Ring. You should see them ALL!! On "My 5 Star Action/Adventures" & "My Favorite Movies" lists. DVD. |

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003, PG-13)
Love all three of these installments and I wrote a more complete review on the first one-The Fellowship of The Ring. This third is special because, for one, their trials come to an end, and the Love story contained in this trilogy comes to a wonderful climax!! This one was very emotional for me...loved it! On "My 5 Star Action/Adventures", "I Cry Everytime", & "My Favorite Movies" lists. DVD. |

The Wizard of Oz 1939, G)
What can I say about this film that hasn't already been said? Hasn't EVERYONE seen this 1939 (A GREAT year for movies) musical/fantasy masterpiece....with each actor placed perfectly into their character roles?! This is my all time favorite childhood film, and I still LOVE it! I can remember as a child WAITING for it to come on TV every spring and being SO excited about it...the whole family was! Then me, my sisters and neighborhood friends would go outside and each pick a character and "Play" The Wizard of Oz :) Such a wonderful fantasy film with lots of laughs, scary moments and even tears. It teaches some good lessons as well. |

Blast from the Past 1999, PG-13)
There is something so charming about this story...I just re-watched it and still love it. Any show with a "Time" element usually draws me in...so mesmerizing to me. On a serious note, even though this is a comedy, through it I can see how morally bad things have gotten in our society. Brendan Fraser and Christopher Walken's performances are priceless...a Son and Father that spend 35 years in a bomb shelter partially due to the Father's paranoia. I remember in the early 60's my Uncle dug out a bomb shelter...it was a big deal back then. I am such a sucker for romance and this is the perfect love story with pretty Alicia Silverstone playing the love interest. Funny, silly, sweet and underrated, I highly recommend this movie for the pure entertainment value. On "My Favorite Movies" & "My 5 Star Funnies" lists. DVD. |
