Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
Among the most imaginative and well-crafted science fiction films of all time. The story, the characters, the special effects, the music...all of it iconic and all surviving the test of time. Thank God this movie was made prior to the advent of CGI!
On top of all of its impressive technical accomplishments, how many films can claim to have created their own cultural mythology? The Greeks have Olympus, film geeks have The Force.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
The only prequel worthy of the original trilogy. Ian McDiarmid as Sidious is a truly chilling villain and Ewan McGregor continues his fantastic interpretation of the young Kenobi. Lucas finally got his act together with this one.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
A cinematic masterpiece. Every element of film craft honed to perfection; acting, directing, effects,editing/pacing, screenwriting, and the iconic score composed by John Williams. Easily among the greatest film adventures of all-time!

The Usual Suspects
This movie blew me away. Everything works here; the script is surprising, engaging, and intricately detailed; the characterizations are top-notch; the musical score is highly effective; the pacing and editing are masterfully orchestrated to the point that no second is wasted on unnecessary b.s.; and each and every composition and camera move is played for maximum storytelling affect. This movie raises the crime drama to the level of masterpiece work of art. It's even better (and a completely different experience) upon subsequent viewings.
16
The Thin Man 1934,  Unrated)
The Thin Man
One of the wittiest and most charming series of films you will ever find. They still hold up well today and the entire series (six films in all) is consistently entertaining. William Powell and Myrna Loy create the ideal married couple in retired super-sleuth Nick Charles and wealthy wife Nora, who solve crimes between martinis. An absolute blast!

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)

Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai)
Something must be said of a foreign language film with a running time of 3 1/2 hours that never loses its domestic audience's attention. This amazing work of art, the inspiration for MGM's The Magnificent Seven, is easily deserving of status among "the greatest masterpieces in the history of the motion picture," as flixster's own review states.

My pick for the greatest comedy of all-time! An epic comedy actually. The cameos from dozens of early and then present-day Hollywood comedians are a blast to spot! Everyone's here from Jimmy Durante and Buster Keaton up to Don Knotts and Jerry Lewis! Hysterical!

Remember that I rate these movies according to their genre, and the genre this time is "so bad it's good". As such, it's the ultimate classic. This four star rating does not however mean that it's as good as other four star films. 'Cause, believe me, it's not! Just get some friends together, load up on the unhealthy snacks, and laugh your @$$ off at how horrible this train wreck of a movie really is!
