In my opinion there is no finer film. Fincher's vision is amazing. Watch on repeated viewings the way Mills and Somerset rub off on one another. The way Mills is around his wife. Sommerset's devotion to the job that clearly depresses him. The score is fantasic. Visual effect are brilliant. It doesn't get much better. My all time top film. Yes there are a few quips with it but to be honest every movie has at least one. Often people i meet say they won't watch it as it's too scary. It's not the film that's scary. You never see any of the murders take place. U only see the aftermath, all the evidence. Fincher clevery shows you the pieces of the puzzle so that you imagine what happened. That my friends is the scary part. Your imagination. Which is why this film works so well. A great Non-Hollywood ending too. I hate the whole sugar coated endings of most movies churned out nowadays. If i watch a film i like to come out at the end, having been challenged by what i just saw. I like to drive back with friends or whoever or sit in cafe and start arguing about ifferences. I like to think. Here is an ending that you can give several different meanings too. I'd love to say stuff now but if people have not seen it i would ruin it for em. I have said enough. This movie rules.
My introduction to European movies. i was about 19 when i saw it and to this day i am blown away with it. Don't even bore yourself with the remake 'The Assassin'. Our heroine is the hardest kick arse woman on the planet. Look out for Jean Reno as Viktor the cleaner. Great restaurant scene when she is given her first assignment. It might be a little understated when i say that i love this film.
Seldom do crime films give you this kind of perspective. That of the cop and that of the crims being sort after. The lives of every character here is played out in front of us so you can feel something for everyone. Mann was really on form here after learning what needed changing after making the original LA Takedown, which has it's own unique feel to it. De Niro and Pacino share screen time together (although they both worked on Godfather II they never shared the screen) in one of the most unforgettable scenes in movie history. This is one, if not the, best crime films ever.
I want you to hit me as hard as you can. There are only a handfull of films that affect me. This is one of the leading contenders. Had a fight after seeing this film. Made me stand up for myself a bit more. Fincher you are a God (obviously i use the term God, very loosely)
He's gone and done it again. No, not the killer from se7en. Fincher. this film is about as close as a Hitchcock film anyone could make nowadays. Major chlostraphobia in this. The only external shots are a handful at the start and the end. Some might argue one in the middle when she answers the door to the police, but it is filmed up close so u don't get the freedom of being released into free space. Foster is absolutely gorgeous in this film too. Watch it late at night with the lights off (tho y people watch movies with lights on is an absurdity to me anyway). Disconnect your phone. Put a 'do not disturb' sign on the door. Throw ya pets outside. Take your children to Mum and Dads for the night. Don't leave your seat for anything. By the end you will want to go out tho. Even if it is just to check if the cat is still alive. The tension that builds from the moment of the break-in captures you and doesn't let go until the last scene. Some classic Fincher moments. Look out for the continuous camera shot of the burglars trying to gain entry. Must have been a small camera to fit through the handle of a coffee jug (yes that was sarcasm).
It's not often i say this but Douglas is brilliant. Penn lends a hand as the paranoid black shhep of the family brother. Another masterpiece from Fincher. The twists start relatively early and don't stop until the end. leaving some veiwers completely lost. Just watch it again and everything comes to light in-fact like Fight Club, the more you watch it the better it becomes. Very good use of light (or lack of it) and shadows to make you feel uneasy. A top notch thriller from the modern day Hitchcock.
No this is not some seedy porn flick about entry up the bum hole. Caught it on TCM about a year ago. What a great concept. The first half of the film we see in POV. I won't ruin what happens, just go watch it. When they said they don't make em like that anymore, this is one of the films they are talking about.
Slow and boring. That's what someone told me they thought of this. Do yourself a favour and don't watch any film that has an ounce of intellect. You know who you are. Visually beautiful. Acting is top notch. Cast are brilliant. Mann is awesome. I really enjoyed Crowe on-screen and i am not a big fan of his tho here he excels. Having gained weight for the role of Jeffrey Wigand. It is one of those film that you go and research a bit on the net after. A darn good watch.
The only time, so far, that i have liked Ryan Phillippe (havent seen Crash as i write this). Del Toro . . . fried gold. What a great film ChrisMcQuarries debut and what a debut it is. Superb cast. Some outstanding scenes the best chase sequence (probably the slowest ever too). So looking forwards to seeing what McQuarrie does next.
What a great ole classic. Some of the best dancin skits. Kelly and O'Connor work so well together, it's amazing that this is the only time they were in the same film, and then there is the addition of the beautiful Debbie Reynolds. One of my all-time favourite movie scenes in this film where Jean Hagen is having voice coaching "i cyant staand him". Brilliant. Love the'Good Morning' scene too. A bit of fried gold this one.
